Michael, I know that you are safe watching over Richard and sometimes Jarred. Cause Jarred just as crazy as you were as a kid. Jarred loves to talk about you and wants to know more about you and what happened and i had to get him a place mat with the map of the world on it so i could show him here you were and where Richard is now. But I am still pissed off that you are not here. I turned the computer on after work to see that a soilder form RI was killed in Afghanistan well the first thought so you and the second one was Richard is there now. I cant believe that in aboy 2 weeks Jarred will be 5 and that means 5 years and 5 months since we said good bye and laid you to rest. An its funny i was just thinking about that day you were late to your on funnreal and Jarred was late being born. If Jarred would have been born when he was supposed to maybe this year won't be so hard Michael. Who would have thought Nov.10,2006 we laid you to rest you were a pain in my but growing up. An the april 10,2007 Your nephew was born Jarred and let me tell you that he drives me crazy and is a pain in the but see you to have that in common. Michael Jarred will know you and your polor bears picture hangs in his room where you can see it when you come say good night to him. Love you Michael our big sister

I herd a song today on the radio that reminded me how hard it was when we lost you. I then realized you never got to hear it. You're death was the hardest for me to take in Iraq. You were an amazing person in my eyes. I will miss the easy shared smiles, the way you could lift any ones sprits, and the fact that I can't tell you about my family. I now have two kids, just something I never got to tell you. My prayers are with your family. I look forward to seeing you one day.
God bless

Hey Sarge, I was thinking about you this morning and it was really getting to me. I miss you buddy and I will never ever forget what you did for us!!! I will always remember that last time I saw you on this earth and as we were parting you stopped and looked me in my eyes and said “I love you bro”. I will see you again soon I hope, but not too soon! I love you too brother and I hope I am living a life that would make you proud. I think of you often and all your battle buddies that are with you now, waiting for the rest of us to get there and I just hope we can all live lives that are befitting of what you guys did. It is a tall order, but I think we can do it if we just remind ourselves every now and then, that you gave your young life so that we didn’t have too. Thank you Mike!

I still treasure the time we spent together. You are a shinning star that touched my life and faided out too soon. On this years anniversary of your passing I have stopped to think about what's imporant in life and how we shouldn't let the little things get in the way, since we never know when life might end.I love you my friend, thanks for watching out for me while I am here in Iraq! I know you are the one keeping me safe. Much love. Catherine

You were always the "funny man" who made everyone laugh and were compassionate to everyone you met. You were a blessing in my life and I thank god that I had the pleasure and honor of being your friend. On this memorial day, and everyone since your passing, I like to think about your life and even though it was cut short, you touched every person you came into contact with. Love you babe,

SFC Randy Henk 1-36 INF Scout Platoon Sergeant

January 20, 2009

I served with SGT Weidemann as his Platoon Sergeant when he first arrived to Germany in 2004, during the months he was assigned to 2-37 Armor. He always brought a light to a dark day through his smiles and antics, a dedicated hard-worker, always a "go-to" soldier, as he would give every task his all. We parted in August 2004, as he was assigned to 1-36 Infantry Regiment and I to BCo. 2-37 Armor.
The first time I saw him again on the day he fell. I was then the Scout Platoon Sergeant for 1-36 Infantry. My Scout section pit-stopped at Firm Base 4 preparing for an EOD follow-on mission, we had just entered the gate and all of a sudden a familiar voice and familiar smile from ear to ear. We spoke for a moment or two, as his patrol was preparing to depart. We both waved to each other as he drove his truck out of the gate. Later that evening my guys and I helped bring him home.
He is in my thoughts often, along with all whom with I have served. Take Care, Buddy.

Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.

The Wind on The Downs

“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”

(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )

Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….

“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”

I did not know Michael, but I am remembering
his service and sacrifice. He is my hero. !

The Other Side

i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.

can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.

i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side

the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

May 15, 2008

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.

Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."

It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man."

God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.

When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.

I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.

There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.

If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.

So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.

And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

I am sorry for your loss. From what I read Michael sounds like a very nice young man.

I would also like to thank Michael and his family for his ultimate sacrifice to our country.

August 15, 2007

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.

Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.

I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend who joined the Army with three other friends, one of whom is my son (Le Ron was killed in action on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

To the Family of Michael,

I had the great honor and privilege to meet and get to know Michael while working in Friedburg at the CMR on post. I can’t remember exactly the first time I ran into him but I think it was just after a few “Hello’s” we started chatting. He was always so funny and lifted everyone’s spirits. We would go down to the pool hall and E Z money, some local hang outs and he would be the life of the party. I was very deeply saddened when my friend notified me from Iraq of the loss of Michael. It’s really hard to accept that he’s gone but he will always be here in my heart. The sacrifice he made will never be forgotten and I think of him every day. My thoughts and prayers are with his family, thank you for raising such an amazing man.

“Soldier”
Written to Honor the Service of Our Fallen Soldiers

Soldiers write history, we pay the price
Many miles distant, you live the life
Entered the Battle of our own free will
Out of Duty for Country, and we’d do it still

We hope and pray that all will find peace
In God, in the flag, in memories of valor
Gone now, our pride and courage you see
“An Army of One” our motto forever

Willing to risk all for love of our Brothers
We’re still Your Soldiers…and we showed the way
Our Lives too short, now pray for the others
Lived free died Heroes in lands far away

Deep within souls all cherished our Service
We’ll always have what some never know
Courage and Honor, our names forever
Lived life with purpose…just our time to go

We march in the Heavens with Honor and Glory
Missions accomplished we fought the Good Fight
Many years from now…we’ll tell the full story
Until that Day we will live in the Light

Our lives we laid down in a land far away
Still watching o’er you this night and by day
No need to talk…just know we are with you
There in your hearts and we hear what you pray

Yes we are your soldiers
Our lives we laid down
Still We guard o’er you
Still Duty bound

Entered the Battle of our own free will
Out of Duty for Country, and we’d do it still
We’ll always have what some never know
Lived life with purpose…it was our time to go

I am deeply sorry for your loss and I will truly miss your son. The first time I met him in the motor pool I was surprised to encounter such a happy and positive kid who seemed to genuinely enjoy turning wrenches and getting dirty. Beyond fixing my track or humvee, I was fortunate enough to develop a personal friendship with him. Because I was a Lieutenant, I think he enjoyed giving me a hard time - and I enjoyed taking it, simply because he was the kind of guy who put everyone in a better mood, regardless of the nature of the interaction.
We'll miss you, brother.

I am really sorry to hear about Weidemann. I served with him during his first tour in Iraq with L-Trp 3/3 ACR. He was such a nice guy and hard worker and always had a big goofy smile on his face. Us mortars loved to give him a hard time but we were always grateful for his help and it was all in fun. You couldn't help but like him. Before I left Iraq I made sure to get a picture with all the guys that I really enjoyed serving with and I'm glad I did because I have one of the 2 of us shaking hands. He definitely was a great soldier.

When I heard about Sgt Weidemann I was astounded because he had to have been the hardest worker and one of the nicest guys around Firm Base 5. We wouldn't have had any electricity without him and in spite of the harsh conditions he always maintained a great attitude. I couldn't even aspire to be as professional and disciplined of a soldier as he was. He definitely left a lasting impression on all those who served with him. My condolences to his family and to all others who have paid the ultimate price in Iraq.

I just read the news today that we lost Mike Wiedemann. I served with him at Firm Base 5 in Hit for about 5 months. He kept the morale high by providing us with electricity to make our lives more comfortable (not an easy task) and by being the funniest soldier around and displaying the brightest demenor even in the face of harsh conditions. I cried when I heard of his passing, and I will always remember him. There are many soldiers with whom I served in Hit, yet Wiedemann was one of the only ones whose name stands out and whose personality and hard work are unforgetable. My deepest condolences to Mike's family.

To the Family and Friends of SGT Michael Weidemann:
I'm sincerely sorry for your loss, Michael is very missed. I first met him when I was filling in as the physician assistant at FB5 in the spring. I distinctly remember my first day there and the impression he left upon me. He was open, warm, and friendly to a complete stranger -- no questions asked, no assumptions made. I remember thinking, "What an incredible spirit he has." His happiness was contagious. Everyone wanted to be in his company, and his smiles and laughs were always rubbing off on everyone. I believe we are all eternal spirits, and that our Heavenly Father knew us before our earthly creation... we choose the people we want to be close to in this life and in eternity... our family, our friends. Michael chose to be a light in everyone's life. He did so even more here, in Iraq, in a time of war. He is a brother to his comrades and a genuine friend. Maybe I chose to meet him, so I could remember how we are supposed to be in this life, and that was his blessing to me. I know his spirit is now in Heaven...I wish words could ease your grief, hopefully they do some. All of our prayers are with you.

To everyone who played a part in this young man's life, however small you think that it may have been: you raised a wonderful and strong man, who enjoyed an honest day's work in the service of his fellow soldiers. His smile and his candor will be missed by all of us here in Iraq who had the honor to serve with him. My deepest sympathies, from a Soldier who served with him.
