Carla Stewart Obituary

STEWART , Carla J.
Army Reserve Spc. Carla J. Stewart , 37, died Jan. 28, in Tallil, Iraq. She was killed when her convoy vehicle overturned while on active duty supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom and assigned to the 250th Transportation Company based in El Monte. Acting upon a 20 year-desire to serve in the military and serve her Country, Carla had enlisted in the Army Reserve in 2004, just months before her 35th birthday.
Carla was born in La Canada Flintridge, and attended La Canada Flintridge High School and Hoover High School in Glendale. She was pursuing a career in mechanical engineering at Glendale Community College and had many other talents and interests including ballet, mountain hiking, a love for animals, nature and children. She had five cats, some of which were rescue kittens, as well as one dog. Her infectious laughter resounded everywhere she went, and she approached everything she did with passion.
Survivors include: her mother, Emmy Aprahamian; her father, Edmund Babayan; her brother, Richard Babayan; her estranged husband, Brandon Stewart; and all members of the Aprahamian and Babayan families.
Services will be held at Forest Lawn-Hollywood Hills, 6300 Forest Lawn Drive, Los Angeles, (800) 204-3131. Visitation is set for Friday, 10a.m. to 9 p.m.; religious and military services will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. in the Hall of Liberty Auditorium.

Hello,

We apologize for being so late in expressing our deepest condolences to you and your family. We want you to know that we will be sending Care Packages to deployed troops this holiday season and several of these will be dedicated to your loved one. Each package will carry the name, photo, service branch, rank and hometown of Carla J. Stewart US Army Specialist.

We realize that this is a small tribute, but we do this with all respect and sincerity and we want you to know that it is made possible by thousands of like-minded individuals from across the American youth hockey community, their families, friends and others who support our mission.

We will not forget. May God Bless you and keep you safe and strong.

Sincerely,

To the Family of SPC Stewart...
I served with her in Iraq in
2006-2007. I want you to know that as long as I live her memeory will always be alive.

Not only was she a driver but a gunner, and she had to be the shortest gunner that I have ever seen. I would go outside the wire to gather intel, and I would ride with their unit. There was alwayes healthy banter between Carla and I and she could hold her own.

As we come to another Memorial day I wanted you to know that I was thinking of her and praying for your family.

With deepest respects,
SSG William T. Thomas

Saturday marks the 5th anniversary of your death. I think of you every day. I have given a speech to the City of Glendale to dedicate your banner that flies in downtown Glendale along with the other gold star recipients, I have talked to the high school seniors of both Immaculate Heart and Holy Family in their death and grieving psychology classes. I know you would approve of this, and I feel very close to you whenever I do give a talk. I certainly miss your spirited ways. You are so loved. Char

It has been over 5yrs now since we last struggled to keep up with the squad marching ahead of us. I remember our short legs couldn't keep up, and you would always ask me how I did did it. But you did it too. You are often in my thoughts and strengthen me when I am weak. Miss your smile, your spirit, and your dedication.

The Other Side

i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.

can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.

i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side

the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

Emotions ran through my head
I found myself wishing I was dead
All because you were gone
I knew I would never see you another day

You got in your car and waved goodbye
and then I was left all alone to cry
I felt helpless, and all alone
I could not talk to you on the phone

You were my girl and my best friend
Why, Oh why did it have to end?
You made me so happy, so carefree
You made it feel okay for me to be me

It’s been two years since you gone away
but it feels like it was only yesterday
I remember everything you used to do
It may seem impossible, but it’s true

You were the best friend I ever had
Now that you are gone I am beyond sad
I love and I miss you more than you ever knew
You’ve taught me so much, and I want to say thank you until we meet again carla you will not be forgotten!!!

Happy B'day to the original "Stewart" Little of our Clan
(November 30th)--I remember one birthday when you were down at our home for dinner and while the boys watched football on t.v. you and I watched a Thin Man marathon--the Thin Man, being made in the 1940's(w/Myrna Loy and Wm. Powell)had 1940's fashions and you were enthralled with the blouses and slacks, dresses and especially the hats(and Myrna Loy wore them sooooo well)after the movie I showed you some pix of Brendan's grandmother wearing some of those same fashions and looking pretty good herself--you took a couple of pix home, you just loved those fashions. That was such a wonderfuld afternoon we spent on your b'day. You are so loved, and you will never be forgotten.

I met Spec. Stewart in AIT in Fort Leonardwood, Missouri. She had a big heart, and she was mentally strong. I remember we were in formation in the freezing cold. I remember she telling me she was very cold and she was not used to it and me either cause both of use were from California. I could not know how a small female has the courage to stand in the freezing cold and to serve our country.
I did not know she died until I saw this website. When I saw her picture, I was stunned. I could not believe it. She was an amazing person. I'm glad that I met her in my life. She is an angel from our great Lord. She is in heaven now, where its just peaceful and very glorious place. Goodbye my friend, thank you for the motivation, and I will see you someday in heaven.

Carla,

It is hard to believe that a year has passed. Your light continues to shine and your joyful voice echoes even in your absence.
You are always remembered, always spoken of, always missed.
Your life and death have touched so many lives .. You are now the guardian angel of so many..

Lord, grant me the serenity to accept the things
I cannot change,
the courage to change the things I can,
and the wisdom to know the difference.
~Reinhold Niebuhr

Your memory will continue to live strong in the hearts and minds of many .. You will be spoken of and honored for years to come.

With love and admiration,

Carla Stewart was my daughter-in-law and our whole famiy loves her very much. We had a Celebration of Life Mass for her and the priest that married them came to our home and said the Mass. We had a lot of her friends there and all her favorite foods. It was a wonderful peaceful day.

Stewie,
You kept me grounded when leading seemed to throw me off balance. You made me laugh when at times I just wanted to hang my head down and cry. As I, like so many others, pick up the pieces of a life that was put on hold in order to answer the call to duty, I give thanks for having the opportunity to serve with you, but I am most thankful for the opportunity to call you friend.

To your family, thank you for sharing your most precious gift with us. You will always be in our prayers as Carla will forever be in our hearts.

I don't pretend to know what to say or do that would bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.

Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.

I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON (KIA on 07/06/07) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

REST IN PEACE, HERO, YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!

“Soldier”
Written to Honor the Service of Our Fallen Soldiers

Soldiers write history, we pay the price
Many miles distant, you live the life
Entered the Battle of our own free will
Out of Duty for Country, and we’d do it still

We hope and pray that all will find peace
In God, in the flag, in memories of valor
Gone now, our pride and courage you see
“An Army of One” our motto forever

Willing to risk all for love of our Brothers
We’re still Your Soldiers…and we showed the way
Our Lives too short, now pray for the others
Lived free died Heroes in lands far away

Deep within souls all cherished our Service
We’ll always have what some never know
Courage and Honor, our names forever
Lived life with purpose…just our time to go

We march in the Heavens with Honor and Glory
Missions accomplished we fought the Good Fight
Many years from now…we’ll tell the full story
Until that Day we will live in the Light

Our lives we laid down in a land far away
Still watching o’er you this night and by day
No need to talk…just know we are with you
There in your hearts and we hear what you pray

Yes we are your soldiers
Our lives we laid down
Still We guard o’er you
Still Duty bound

Entered the Battle of our own free will
Out of Duty for Country, and we’d do it still
We’ll always have what some never know
Lived life with purpose…it was our time to go

To the family and friends of SPC Carla Stewart

We send our most sincere sympathy for your greatest sacrifice. Carla not only lived up to the Army’s values of “Honor, Courage and Commitment” for her unit and this country, but also for Herself and her family. Albert Einstein once said “The world is a dangerous place to live; not because of the people who are evil, but because of the people who don't do anything about it.” We take comfort in thinking that our fallen heroes are now in the company of all those who have gone before them. Stewart, we salute you for your commitment. For Carla’s family, we pray God will give you the courage to be strong for each other. We shall live to honor our fallen heroes, for they did “something about it”.

With hearts filled with sorrow for your loss, God Bless.

Heaven's Call
.
Heaven called and you were taken
So young to go, to young to know

The call of heaven did not wait
Your time here a short stay
You were called away
To be part of God’s everlasting garden

Borrowed seed from the Master
A small little bud that graced us with your beauty
Now returned upon heaven’s call

A finely chosen rose
Taken before it bloomed
Before your beauty had time to unfold

He is the Gardner and you his prize winning bud
Perhaps He seen a storm that you could not with stand
So he picked you before the wind would fall

The memories forever etched in our hearts
Our little bud now blooms
With the angels up on high

Please accept my deepest and most heartfelt sympathy regarding the loss of this Brave Warrior, unknown in this war torn country, so far away from home.

May they learn his identity so this family may have the peace and comfort needed for this un consolable loss.
May this Hero rest safely in the Care of God. He Will Never Be Forgotten.

There is and never will be enough ways, to humbly thank these service men and women, who are willing to serve so far from home, knowing the dangers involved. I am the sister of a Vietnam Hero, KIA-1967.

"Our debt to the heroic men and valiant women in the service of our country can never be repaid, they have earned our undying gratitude. America will never forget their sacrifices".
~ PRESIDENT HARRY S. TRUMAN ~

May the Peace and Guidance of God, be with those involved in learning who this Hero is.
This entire nation morns this loss and will pray that
he may rest in peace and be known to all the country, by name, for the sacrifice he made.
