William Brown Obituary
Funeral services will be Sunday, July 1, at 2 p.m. from the Patterson-Sorrells Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Billy Quinn and Battalion Chaplain Kirby officiating. Burial will follow in the Memory Hill Cemetery in Dothan, Ala., with Patterson-Sorrells Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday from 6 until 8 p.m.
Sgt. Brown was born Dec. 22, 1981 in Wichita, Kan. to the late retired 1st Sgt. Edward Brown and Theresa Kyser. He attended elementary school in Dothan, Ala., Conyers Middle School in Conyers, Ga., and graduated from Phil Campbell High School in Phil Campbell, Ala., in 2002. He joined the U.S. Army June 20, 2002 and served in Bravo Co. 5/158 Avn. Regt. in Iraq from March 2003 until March 2004. He had been stationed at Fort Carson, Colo. since January 2006 in Charlie Co. 2-227 Avn. Regt., also known as the "Witchdoctors". He had served in Iraq since September 2006.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his grandfather, Elmer W. Bierbaum.
Survivors include his wife, Rachel Brown, and two sons, Ethan and Tyler Brown, all of Enterprise, Ala.; mother and step-father, Theresa and retired Sgt. Mickey Kyser, Daleville, Ala.; three sisters, Barbara Cherry (Eddie), Hartford, Ala., Angela Kyser, Daleville, Marla Brown, Dallas, Ga.; one brother, Marty Brown (Stephanie), Stockbridge, Ga.; grandmother, Marie Bierbaum, Dothan, Ala.; three nephews, William Cherry, Nathaniel Brown, and Zachary Brown; two nieces, Rubye Cherry and Cecilia Brown; fellow "Brothers in Arms", and his second family still serving in Iraq.

I am the father of LCpl Ryan Winslow, KIA 15April2006 in Iraq. I handle the Remembering Our Fallen memorial for Alabama. This is a traveling photo display of those from our state who died in the War on Terror. My mission
is to do all I can to keep their memories alive. This includes telling people who view the exhibit something about as many of the Fallen as I can. Info comes from family members, friends, others who knew them, or from Googling obituaries and memorials. Will tell people about William.

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. Rachael and boys, even though I never got to meet William personally, as your great Aunt Marcia- I loved him and prayed for him daily and kept up with your family during your military experiences. Your Grandmother(and my sister) Linda always made sure I got the latest news when you were in Italy and when you came home for a visit and of course, all the pictures she could email. To the Family and Friends of this Soldier:
I will stand in grief with this soldier's family to honor him. For every fallen HERO there is a bright star that shines in the evening sky to remind us of the cherished gift we were given – even if for too short a time.
My heart breaks again as I sign yet another guest book of another courageous young soldier who gave their life so selflessly. I wish I never found myself in a position to have to sign another guestbook for the rest of my life, but I promised Brent that neither he nor any like him would be forgotten and so I will continue until the day there is no longer the need.
We lost our son SFC Brent A. Adams on 12/1/05 and it seems like yesterday. I wish so badly there were things I could say to you right now to make the pain you are feeling go away, but I know first hand there simply are no words that will bring you the comfort and peace your heart aches for. Just know that you are not alone. My heart, thoughts, and prayers are with you all as you go through this tragedy moment by moment and as you mourn this loss.
We don't know each other, will probably never meet, but will forever be united in the loss of our Heroes. We have, unfortunately joined a group none of us wanted to join, an ever-growing group of families in this situation. May God grant you peace and strength to get through this and be able once again to smile at a memory rather than have only the tears that flow so easily now. To be so proud of your loved one and so saddened at the same time is a mix of emotions very difficult to deal with as our hearts both burst with pride and pain together.
I am sorry that I never knew your soldier personally. While they can never be replaced, neither will they ever be forgotten. You must trust that sometime, someday the loving memories you have will help to sustain you and help you go on. This courageous soldier will forever be your Angel watching over you all for the rest of your lives. It's what brings me some measure of peace and comfort and I hope it will you as well.
To his family and friends in pain, I offer this comfort: When you find yourself in that dark sorrowful place, think not only of how you will miss him, but instead recall the years, days, hours and minutes gifted to you by his presence. The one thing that cannot be taken from you is your wonderful memories that now will mean more than ever.

Though this soldier is not yet known except for their unit or families, my grief for the loss of you son/daughter is felt. I know what it's like to loose your child in war as my son was KIA 11/12/06 in Samarra, Iraq SPC Harry (Buck) Winkler III. It feels that your heart has been ripped from you and you don't understand why this happened to your child. I've felt all you will feel in the coming days and weeks and though I"m not close I am very close by email. I offer any support to you and your family that I can. It's with the Grace of God that I've gotten through each day and with His healing love and comfort that I've been able to once again sleep at night and not cry each day. Believe me I do know how hard it is. May God continue to heal you and your family and contact me when and if you are ever ready, even if it's to vent or cry. Mother of another fallen soldier
