Hello,
We would like to express our deepest condolences and also let the Gillespie Family know that we recently made a small donation to the "Fisher House-Colorado" in honor of Randy J. Gillespie US Air Force Master Sergeant. We recognize that this is a humble tribute, but we wanted you to know that it is heartfelt and made possible by thousands of like-minded individuals in the youth hockey community and beyond. We will not forget. May God Bless you and keep you strong.
Sincerely,

It has truly been my honor to sign Randy's guest book these past few years. Unfortunately, due to complications from my Multiple Sclerosis, this may be the last message I'm able to write. Please forgive me and know that Randy will always be remembered in my home.

Lisa,
As time passes and we the human race move on, I'm truly humbled to tell you Randy Gillespie your husband, lives on. As I fight back my tears to tell my daughter (now 14) about two heroes not just Randy but you, it makes me proud to have known you both. I distinctly remember a strong AF wife that attended a function mostly in his honor; the Logistics Banquet in 2008. I must tell you now that I have retired and moved on Randy and you are my deepest memories of the Air Force. Stay strong...you have my promise to never forget.

I had the opportunity to serve with MSgt Randy Gillespie, at Camp Stone in Herat. As the Senior Enlisted member he functioned as our First Sergeant. I came to know him as more than just a First Sergeant. He was a friend and a great mentor. I remember so many conversations we had about his career in the Air Force, and family. He was a man that lived out our first core value; integrity. He believed in integrity so much, he practiced it right there on the fuel line with the Afghans he mentored. The day he passed will always be remembered by me. As the medic who received the call to go to his aid that day in July, I did everything I could to help my friend. There is not a day that goes by that I do not think of him. To this day, I wear a black POW/MIA style bracelet on my right arm with his name, and KIA date. I have shared the story of his sacrifice on many occasions with members of my Medical Group. I will always remember the friend I made in Randy, and I will continue to pray for his family each day.

I'm still missing my brother Randy, but wanted to chime in and say hi. I hope that time has helped. I know that Randy is missed and it will never be right, but I do hope that you have been able to adjust somewhat seeing as how time is supposed to help heal wounds. Anyhow, I'm sure that I may not win, but was paid the ultimate respect as far as I'm concerned in that I was put in as the Incirlik nominee for the "Randy Gillespie Fuels SNCO of the Year" Nominee. May not win, but I want to ensure that you know that it means the world to me that this award was named after my good friend. He was everything that I hope to be as far as SNCO's are concerned. More importantly, I want you to know that Randy will never be forgotten by those of us that loved him. Please let me know if you ever need anything. MSgt Whitt (e-mail: [email protected])

Mrs Gillespie,
I think of Randy all the time, he was a good friend that I will miss. I am the one that he swore into the SNCO Corps in the picture at Ft Riley. I loved him like a brother, we were at Ft Riley together (bunked right next to each other) and did the Afghanistan ILO tour together. I regret that I was unable to be there for his memorial at Sheppard AFB at the POL school house (I was in route to my new assignment), but I promise you that my friend Randy is in my thoughts and prayers constantly. I will never be able to say/do the right thing that will make it ok, but please know how much Randy will be missed/was and is my friend! If you ever need anything, please let me know. It would be an honor to do whatever I can.

My husband remembers Randy every day.
He was at training with him at Ft. Riley and in Afghanistan with him. My husband was given a great honor from Randy; he inducted my husband into the SNCO ranks while they were at training.
I never had the honor of meeting Randy, but he became a part of our family in all the letters and emails my husband sent home.
I just wanted to let Randy’s family know that he may be gone, but he is not forgotten and never will be.
God Bless.

The Wind on The Downs
“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”
(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )
Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….
“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”
I did not know Randy, but I am remembering
his service. He is my hero. !

The Other Side
i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.
can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.
i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.
it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side
the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

Father we entrust our brother Randy to your mercy. You loved him greatly in this life: now that he is freed from all its cares, give him happiness and peace forever. Welcome him now into paradise where there will be no more sorrow, no more weeping or pain, but only peace and joy with Jesus your Son, and the Holy Spirit forever and ever.
May God hold Randy in the palm of His hand. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. My deepest sympathies.
Thinking and praying for you on the 1st anniversary of your passing into eternal glory. May God hold you in the palm of His hand. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

I was stationed with MSgt Randy Gillespie on Camp Stone in Herat (Apr 2007-MAR 2008). I worked with Randy on the Morale Wellfare and Recreation (MWR) Committee - specifically we both helped with the 4th of July Celebration at Camp Stone. I arrived back home in Chicago in April 2008. As a Navy Chief in the Reserve I have now returned to my civillian job. Tomorrow is Memorial Day. I will try to explain the importance of this day to my wife and children and as part of that, I will be telling them the story about Randy. Please know, Gillespie Family, that you are in our thoughts and prayers. I will always remember Randy and the impact he made on me and others at Camp Stone.

I arrived just after Randy did but we were all together living in tents as Connecticut House for the first few weeks. I remember a bunch of eating together at the Goat (DFAC) and Randy was always the one to keep our spirits up and remind us all about why we volunteered to be there -- for our love of our country and the freedoms we enjoy. It took me a long time to come to this website to write something. I still get choked up when I talk to people about Randy's dedication to service and how much he cared about all of us that were with him. We were all family there, brothers and sisters. Randy was the airman we all wanted to be and tried to be. Our lives were better having known him, served with him and loved him like a brother. I tell everyone I can about his ultimate sacrifice to protect our country and it is with great pride that I can say he was my friend. We all miss you.

Hello,
I am currently stationed in Afghanistan with quarters in the Gillespie House. There will be a dedication to MSgt Randy Gillespie on 25 Feb 08. Initial my thoughts were not to attend this dedication ceremony. Then the thought hit me…who is MSgt Randy Gillespie. I was very surprised to have found a site, with memorial information of this fine American. As an active service member, this very well could me, with a building named in my memory.

Although it's been a few months now since we lost MSgt Gillespie I just recently stumbled across this site. I went through training with MSgt Gillespie at Fort Riley, his bunk was four down from mine. His story is one of true patriotism and I have a small chapter to add. I spoke to Randy often because frankly he was a great listener, one Saturday I asked him to come out on the town with us. Randy wasn't much of a drinker but he finally agreed to come with us. We went to a place called Fast Eddie's to play pool and just get away from the post for a few hours. During this time Randy told me something that really changed how I view things. He said that he could have retired instead of coming on this deployment but he had seen too many Senior NCO's do that and he thought it set the wrong kind of example for the younger troops. He also told me that he believed we could make a difference in Afghanistan; he said these things with such a light in his eyes that it left me in awe. When we arrived in Afghanistan, Randy went to Herat, Camp Stone and I went to Kabul, Camp Phoenix. After his passing, I was asked to move to Camp Stone so another could rotate out. I arrived at camp stone in September and was amazed at how many people had also been touched by his devotion to god and country. Once I began talking to the Afghan soldiers and the interpreters all they could say about him was that he was a great man. Now I'm getting down to my last three months in country and I know that the lessons Randy taught me will be with me forever and the only words that come to mind are He was a great man.

Dear Lisa & the Gillespie Family,
Hold your heads high as Randy would want it that way, a man of passion, great concern, always a heart full and ready to give, blessing all who had the opportunity of knowing him. He spoke with conviction and compassion, seen with tears in his eyes as he spoke with concern about troops under his care and the love and support of a wonderful wife and his children who loved him deeply.
Randy passionately walked a life full of faith and devotion to his family, service to country and fellow airmen. A brother in Christ, friend, colleague, a dear husband to Lisa and wonderful father…and a great void is felt as he departs our everyday lives. He didn’t just want to make a difference, he did it! Randy was very blessed to have you Lisa as a wonderful wife. Because of your faith, and the godly example you lived daily…Randy chose Christ! The victory is the Lord’s and this world and the people who knew him are better because of him.
I am blessed beyond words, and just thrilled to know such a wonderful couple, together and individually. There is much ahead for you and your family, and always remember death & the grave have been conquered! Because of Christ, we live, now & forever. This is not the end. Randy has passed over, and we shall too. May your tears always end in hope, faith, trust & love, for God would have no less for you and your family. God is so very able to work many wonders through the toughest trials…His ways are higher and many times beyond our comprehension, and in those times he asks us to trust his heart. Michael & I are here for you, praying, wanting to help in any way, and as the Lord wills, promise to walk with you through the days a head, one moment at a time.
Love, Prayers & God Bless you all,
Your Friend & Sister in Christ,

Dear family Gillespie,
It saddens me to know that yet another member of our military family has been taken from us, especially one as highly respected and loved as MSgt Gillespie. Although I never had the honor of knowing him, we shared a dear friend in Donna N.; and hearing her describe him with such heartfelt respect and admiration, makes me realize what an opportunity I've missed and what a loss we must endure. May our Lord give you the strength and guidance to help you persevere beyond this tragedy.

Randy was a great friend and confidant and will truly be missed. I worked for Randy for 3+ years (Luke POL) and was always impressed by his integrity and supervision style. He was the "dad" type of boss that you were more afraid of disappointing than you were of getting in trouble. I enjoyed the time I was able to share with him in POL and will never forget his positive outlook and willingness to help anyone. You and your family will continue to be in our prayers.

To the Gillespie Family,
My heart goes out to you. I hadn't known Randy long, only since the cold windy days of Ft Riley, KS. We were in a tight group of only 12 so I got to know him better as the training went on. A lot in common children around the same ages, been to Manas. In that short time I learned a lot from him and I believe people come into your life for a reason. He made me a better person. I still remember the day Whitt found out he made MSgt and Randy wasted no time contacting people to organize a SNCO Induction Ceremony. Like a lot of things he did, it was the "right" thing to do. I am honored to have known him for the short time I did, but I will never forget him. My thoughts and prayers go out to you for the loss of your HERO!

If this person can stand in battle to ensure my freedom, then I will stand in grief with his/her family to honor him/her. For every fallen HERO there is a bright star that shines in the evening sky to remind us of the cherished gift we were given – even if for too short a time.
My heart breaks again as I sign yet another guest book of another courageous young soldier who gave their life so selflessly. I wish I never found myself in a position to have to sign another guestbook for the rest of my life, but I promised Le Ron A. Master Sergeant Randy Gillespie, My brother, supervisor, mentor- For some reason, you had to 10-10, when it was before your time. If only we had a leader and friend like you at my current unit. To this day, I miss Luke Air Force Base, and the POL family there, and I will always regret leaving. Because my flight there was full of the most special people I have had the honor and pleasure of serving with, troops like Randy Gillespie. And I will always miss him. It was so great to see Randy and the Luke POLkats gang again when I came back to the States. There are no other finer people to be with. And Randy was one of the greatest reasons and examples why. He always treated me awesome, like everyone at Luke did. Luke is suffering a great loss. The entire Air Force POL is.

I was fairly young when Randy became a familiar person at our house but I remember the peace that he walked with. He talked to me like I was a brother and he was always there when our family needed help. Later, after joining the Air Force Randy surprised me at my assigned station where I first started in POL. He gave me words of wisdom and encouragement in my life and career and of course offered his help to me whenever I needed it. I feel much guilt for not keeping in touch with such a friend and will miss him dearly. I know he walks with everyone he loves everday. God Bless Randy and his family. May God give you the peace and guidance you need at this most difficult time.

To the Family and Friends of this Soldier:
I will stand in grief with this soldier's family to honor him. For every fallen HERO there is a bright star that shines in the evening sky to remind us of the cherished gift we were given – even if for too short a time.
My heart breaks again as I sign yet another guest book of another courageous young soldier who gave their life so selflessly. I wish I never found myself in a position to have to sign another guestbook for the rest of my life, but I promised Brent that neither he nor any like him would be forgotten and so I will continue until the day there is no longer the need.
We lost our son SFC Brent A. Adams on 12/1/05 and it seems like yesterday. I wish so badly there were things I could say to you right now to make the pain you are feeling go away, but I know first hand there simply are no words that will bring you the comfort and peace your heart aches for. Just know that you are not alone. My heart, thoughts, and prayers are with you all as you go through this tragedy moment by moment and as you mourn this loss.
We don't know each other, will probably never meet, but will forever be united in the loss of our Heroes. We have, unfortunately joined a group none of us wanted to join, an ever-growing group of families in this situation. May God grant you peace and strength to get through this and be able once again to smile at a memory rather than have only the tears that flow so easily now. To be so proud of your loved one and so saddened at the same time is a mix of emotions very difficult to deal with as our hearts both burst with pride and pain together.
I am sorry that I never knew your soldier personally. While they can never be replaced, neither will they ever be forgotten. You must trust that sometime, someday the loving memories you have will help to sustain you and help you go on. This courageous soldier will forever be your Angel watching over you all for the rest of your lives. It's what brings me some measure of peace and comfort and I hope it will you as well.
To his family and friends in pain, I offer this comfort: When you find yourself in that dark sorrowful place, think not only of how you will miss him, but instead recall the years, days, hours and minutes gifted to you by his presence. The one thing that cannot be taken from you is your wonderful memories that now will mean more than ever.
If you ever want to talk, I'm only an e:mail away and would love for you to tell me more about your Hero.
God Bless this soldier and family who gave all and God Bless legacy.com for setting up this site where families can so quickly share their condolences and prayers with others like themselves.

I went to school with Randy and graduated from Cotopaxi with him in 1981. Randy knew how and when to have fun, and was always the type of person to put the needs of everyone else before his own, he will be missed by everyone that knew him. You are all in my thoughts and prayers.

We have known the Gillespie Family for a long time. Roger, Randy's brother, is our Son-in-Law. The family is very close and caring. Randy was a very fine Airman and we know he loved his country as He loved his family. Our heartfelt condolences and prayers go out to the Gillespie family and especially Lisa and the Children. You all will be always in our prayers. We all will miss you very much.
May God Bless you and keep you in His tender loving care!!!

I am very saddened by the loss of this great man and friend. My heart goes out to the Gillespie family. I served with MSgt Gillespie at Luke for 5 years and knew him well. He always looked at the bright side of things and was willing to give you a hand when you needed it, all you had to do was ask and he would be there. Those of us who knew and served with him will never be the same but we can look back and remember the things he said and the time he took to share his experience with us. May he rest in peace and may the Gillespie family continue to receive the prayers and the strength to get through this difficult time.

Lisa...you are an amazing woman and you will get thru this horrible time. The wonderful thing about being a follower of Christ is knowing that Randy is in heaven with God sitting next to Him, waiting for you to one day go home with both of them. This isnt goodbye. Both Adam and I are praying for you and your wonderful and beautiful family.
After reading all of the messages about Randy, i couldnt help but cry. Anyone could see that he has had an enormous impact on many lives, and its good to know that men like him protect the country we live in. He is the ultimate soldier, and we are so proud.
We are here for you. Adam and I are looking forward to seeing you back at work sometime soon.
May God be with you and your family.

Bravely, Randy fulfilled one of the purposes for which God placed men among us; to stand and fight and protect those who cannot. Not only did he give his life in honor, he lived it in honor. Honorably and humbly serving The Lord and country. Thank you, Gillespie family, for supporting him through this life and for your sacrifice. May his death glorify God. In appreciation of the life of a father and husband, julie.

I did not have the oppertunity to meet nor serve with MSgt Gillespie. However, his Luke brothers in arms spoke very highly of him and I think that says a lot about his character. As a POL brother my thoughts are with your family. Thank you for your service and making the umtimate sacrifice.

I was in the same squadron with MSgt Gillespie as well as was a member with him of a church. He was the most patriotic soldier I had ever met, and the most devoted man to God and his Church. He was loved and envied by me and I know others!
I left Luke AFB a year ago, and my heart dropped when I found out what happened. He has a place in my heart that will last forever. They only thing that makes it easier is knowing his love for God, and I know with every beat of my heart he is with him right now looking down on his country and his family!
My prayer and love goes out to his family!
God Bless!

I went to church with Randy and his family. My little sister was really close with his son. Randy used to come to sonic when i worked there and we would joke about how i couldn't skate and I fell on my behind while serving him. Even though I didn't know him very well. I could tell what an awesome man of God he was. I have so much respect for him and his family. I love you guys and your in my prayers. God bless. Even though it's sad to loose him I know he died a hero and went home to be with God and I have faith that we will see him again one day in heaven. I look forward to getting to thank him for his great service to life and our country.

I had the opprotunity to meet Randy at a few end of the year get-togathers for his wife Lisa's work party. He was a very special person. I was very honored to know him, and his family. Lisa would speak of him often and you could see and hear the love in her voice for him. Thank you Randy for fighting for your country and it's citizens. Because of you and one's like you, I am able to sleep at night, speak my mind, not be afraid to live life. In the arms of the angel's you were carried away to be with God. You now sit beside him in heaven and what a glorious feeling that must be. I can only imagine! My prayer's are with your wife, Lisa and your four children. May God and yourself keep your loving arms around them and friends and family. Thank you Randy.
