Hello,

We wanted you to know that we will be honoring and remembering your loved one this holiday season. We have recently sent Care Packages to our deployed troops in his name. Each package will carry the name, photo, service branch, rank and hometown of Daniel R. Bennett US Marine Lance Corporal.

We realize that this is a small tribute, but we do this with all respect and sincerity and we want you to know that it is made possible by thousands of like-minded individuals from across the American youth hockey community, our family, friends and many others who support our mission.

We will not forget. May God Bless you and keep you safe and strong.

I am so sorry for your loss. I was LtCol Harold K. Lockwood's secretary at Andrews AFB, when Veronica was small and I had a daughter named Monica. One day I asked him if Veronica liked The Beatles. The answer was yah! My daughter could barely walk and she tried to open the TV door and danced if they happened to come on the radio.I was a Smith back then. I am so sorry to have found you like this, and pray God's blessings on your family.

Dan, I miss you so much brother. It seems like just the other day we were hanging out in the barracks talking about all the things we were gonna' do together once we got out. I still can't believe you're gone, but I take refuge in the knowledge that I'll see you again someday, on the other side, and we can reminisce about all the good times, boot camp, the fleet, everything. Rest In Peace man.

To the family of Danny Bennett,
Please know that I think of you often. Your son's death has touched my heart and I grieve for your loss as parents, siblings and as his grandfather. I know that he is missed in all that you do.
Danny was a hero in that he served as a Marine and helped protect our freedoms in this time of turmoil.
I honor his service. He was a special young man in his short life. I know that your memories of him will not fade but others also look to him with awe and respect.
Thank you for his service.

Daniel, god bless you soldier and thank you for your service to a grateful nation, forever we will mourn you and all of our fallen heroes both before and after you. On 5/6/08 my nephew PFC Aaron J. Ward was killed in action in Iraq while on a routine patrol. My promise to him was that I would never forget him but also those fallen before and after him. When I made that promise to him the day we laid him to his final resting place I did not realize how often I would need to make entries on Legacy and it just breaks my heart knowing that so many other families have and will continue to feel the pain that our family has endured. Since the loss of my nephew I have written on every single legacy page of every fallen soldier and included a photo of my nephew. I encourage you to do the same to Aaron's page. I have done this to honor my nephew but to let you know your loved one is not alone and my nephew is with him and they are now in God's gracious hands waiting for us to join them one day. Bennett family from the bottom of my heart please except my sincere condolences and may the memories of your Hero carry you through each day for he will never be forgotten!

Prayer for Peace

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace;
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
Where there is injury, pardon;
Where there is doubt, faith;
Where there is despair, hope;
Where there is darkness, light;
And where there is sadness, joy.

O Divine Master,
Grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console;
To be understood, as to understand;
To be loved, as to love,
For it is in giving that we receive,
It is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
And it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.

Amen

We never had the honor of meeting Daniel, but we are fortunate to know his loving Aunt Sue. All too few have any knowledge of what it truly means to serve their country, their God, or their fellow man. Even fewer have the calling, much less the courage to follow their convictions. Daniel was one of the few, the proud, and the brave. He made the ULTIMATE sacrifice to serve his country, his fellow man, in the defense of freedom. Freedom, something most people take for granted, or don't understand, or appreciate, until it is gone - taken away. But Daniel was obviously years ahead of his age in wisdom and understanding of this, and was years ahead of most everyone for his honor and commitment to following through with his calling to serve. We honor his service. We honor Daniel for loving our country and what it stands for. We honor his sacrifice. We honor you - his family - for raising, nuturing, and loving so fine a young man. He was taken from you far too soon. We can't truly imagine the pain you are going through, but we can and do mourn with you. We know Daniel is with God; and we will be honored to have his Aunt Sue introduce us to him someday, so we can thank him personally. God bless all of you.

Those who served so honorable
Your life was forever altered
While I’m home safe and free
I stand with grateful admiration
I stand respectful and so proud
I know I’m only a civilian
And I don’t even know if it’s allowed.

But I salute you; allow me the honor
to salute you with permission let me say
Even though I hold no rank know that from my heart
My humble gratitude comes from the deepest part.

The Final Salute

“Brothers in Arms”, Military men and women down through the centuries, have traditionally exchanged “Hand Salutes” as a sign of recognition and as a way to render courtesy and respect one to another.

This “Hand Salute” is the last that we shall render to L/Cpl. Daniel Bennett our Brother in Arms. To his family it symbolizes the love and respect that we have for Daniel. And to Daniel it is rendered as a symbol of honor and gratitude to thank him for the ultimate sacrifice he made for his country while opposing terrorist forces in Afghanistan. No greater love is shown than a man lay down his life for another. Daniel, you are a brave Marine Warrior, a true Patriot and a national Hero. With your passing, our Country has lost a National Treasure. We bid you a sad farewell. You will be dearly missed from among our ranks. Be at ease. Rest in Peace.

On behalf of the 1,405 members of Lowe-McFarlane Post 14 of the American Legion in Shreveport, Louisiana, I extend our sympathies and our condolences to Daniel’s family and loved ones. Semper Fi !

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.

Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.
