Howard, Helen, Susan & Clay,
I couldn't believe it when I read in the Sun Journal about Andy's death. I knew already of the Christian heritage of the Mathews Family and it showed throughout Andy's obituary. The Mathews Family has had a positive influence that is far reaching. The strength and peace you have within comes only through our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. I love your whole family!

Matthews Family,
I am so very sad for your loss. Andy and Clay are two of the most decent people I remember when I think back to good ole New Bern Senior High days. You should be proud of your sons. May he rest in peace.

To the Matthews Family:
Our heartfelt condolences go out to you in your time of need. We never had the privelage of meeting Andy, but from the testimonies of his friends and family we feel like we did. Our lives are less complete for not knowing him. We are here if you need anything.

Andy was my friend. He will ever be my friend. His encouragement and good cheer helped me through some of the great tragedies of my life, and for that I will always be thankful. My heart goes out to Lynne and the boys, for their loss is a hundred times mine, and mine is near unbearable.

I wrote a special note about how much Andy father, Coach Howard Matthews, meant to me. I graduated in the same high school class with Andy, but his dad was a special teacher. I grieve for the entire family.

To Andy's family:
My heartfelt condolences for your loss, it is indeed a profound one. Andy was my "online friend," though I regret having to reduce his friendship by qualifying it so. Andy was a good man, a gentle man, a funny man, a humble man. He personified "kindness" for me and his voice in email and the forums was always one of tolerance and respect for others. I pray that legacy (and his love of music!) will live on in the sons he loved so dearly -- you are all in my prayers.

I knew Andy only as an online presence via email and forums, but in those mediums I came to know a very good man and a very good friend. He carried especial love of his family with him at all times, and he gave generously of his time and energy to his friends as well. My heartfelt condolences and sympathy go out to you all.

Lynn, perhaps during the lonely times you can read the things people write and be comforted by them. Andy was extremely sensitive and I know has blessed many people as he allowed God to use him to do so. Please know that you, Tim and Mac will be in our prayers. It is impossible to know what to say at a time like this other than that we love you dearly and know that God will enfold you in His loving arms.

I am so sorry that I am not there right now. The students and staff here in Trinidad have been praying for you and the boys. As we had praise and worship last night, I kept thinking of Andy on keyboard. I will be home next week, so I can give you a hug then.
