Luella Gill Obituary

GLENS FALLS Luella Crum Gill, 103, formerly of Garrison Road and Rudnick Drive, in Glens Falls, died Sunday, July 27, 2008, in New York City, where she had resided for the past 13 years. Born Feb. 2, 1905, in Oswego, Kan., Mrs. Gill was the daughter of Mayo and Viola Crum. She was a 1925 graduate of Southern Methodist University. Luella married Edward B. Gill on Jan. 14, 1931, in Dallas, Texas and they moved to Glens Falls in 1933. She was predeceased by her husband of 51 years in 1982, and moved to New York City to share an apartment with her daughter in 1995. Mrs. Gill was a member for many years of the Glens Falls Christ Church United Methodist Church, and an active volunteer in the Glens Falls Hospital Guild, the Association for the Blind and the Family Service Association. She was an avid duplicate bridge player, handwork practitioner and a voracious reader. At the time of her death, she was an active member of the Fifth Avenue Presbyterian Church of New York City, an 85-year member of the Pi Beta Phi Fraternity, and a 50-plus year member of the Glens Falls Country Club. Mrs. Gill is survived by her daughter, Gene Crum Gill of New York City, and several nieces and nephews in Dallas, Texas. Burial will be at 2 p.m. today, July 30, at Pine View Cemetery, Quaker Road, in Queensbury. The family has asked that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to the Christ Church United Methodist on Bay Street, Glens Falls, NY 12801 or the Fifth Avenue Presbyterian Church in New York City.

Dear Gene,
I enjoyed playing bridge with your Mom at the country club. I lived around the corner on North Rd. She was a lovely Lady. Always so kind.
