Ethelyn Jacobs-Showell Obituary

JACOBS-SHOWELL, ETHELYN T., "SISTI", (NEE HARRIS), - of Linwood, and Punta Gorda (FL), formerly of Atlantic City, died on Sunday, September 28, 2008, at the age of 72 after a brief, but well-fought battle with lung cancer. Throughout her struggle, she was supported and surrounded by her loving family. Ethelyn was born in Atlantic City to the late Dr. W. Oscar and Elveta Harris. Sisti attended the Atlantic City Public Schools and was a 1953 ACHS graduate. After graduation, she attended Glassboro State Teachers College (now Rowan University). At the end of her sophomore year, she married the late Honorable Herbert S. Jacobs and had six children from that union. Tragically, her son Willie preceded her in death. During Sisti's empty nest years, she worked at the Atlantic City Medical Center at its in town division. She also was employed by the City of Atlantic City from which she retired in 1997. Sisti was an accomplished amateur artist with a talent in acrylics. She also loved the beach. Much of her time was spent socializing, relaxing and/or meditating on the beach in Atlantic City. In these she found solace and peace. She leaves to mourn their loss: three sons Herbert Samuel Jacobs Jr., Joseph Mark Jacobs and Patrick Maceo Jacobs; two daughters, Pamela T. James (Tony) and Gabrielle M. Caldwell (Barry); three brothers Joseph W. Harris, Sr. (Frances), William Oscar Harris, Jr. (Brenda) and Dr. R. Mark Harris, Sr. (Sylvia) and one sister Joy Ann Harris Kates (Charlie); seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the memorial funeral mass to be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 4, 2008, at the St. Monica's RC Church in Atlantic City. There will be a repast following the mass. Sisti's Life Celebration on the beach will be held at a time and place yet to be announced. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Holy Redeemer Home Care of Egg Harbor Township (800-788-3029) in Sisti's name. Friends and relatives are encouraged to view and sign the virtual condolence book at: http://sistijacobs.lifememory.com

To Jacobs Family:
You will always live in our hearts and prayers.
I'm really sorry to hear about your Mom. We both know that she is now with God in a better place with her suffering gone. I know how much her pain caused you sorrow and grief, and I found it extremely difficult to see you bear it. But, God will never give us more than we can bear, and she is with you through every step in your life.

Your mom will always be with you; her spirit and good will be part of you no matter where you go. I know that you wanted, needed, and hoped for more time to spend with your mom but the time you did spend with her meant so much to her. Your mom loved you very much and I know you will miss her terribly. God gives us examples on this earth of how we should live our lives and your mom was one of the best examples I know because she was my mom also.

I wanted to let you know that I am here for you at any time you need me - just to listen, or to talk. I already told you this, but I wanted to say it again. Please, don't hesitate to call me at anytime on my cellphone 609-402-8757

With my deepest sympathy, your friend and brother, Jake Peak and wife Verna.

You have lost a genuine Jewel but,
Only the LORD JESUS CHRIST can comfort you during these difficult days. Look to HIM to give you the comfort that you need. HE knows all, HE sees all, and HE will guide you through these difficult days. It is no secret what GOD can do, what HE has done for others HE will do for you.
To be absent from the body is to be present with the LORD.
Trust JESUS and never doubt and HE will surely bring you out, take your heavy burden to the LORD.
Ask the SAVIOR to help you comfort, strengthen and keep you. HE is willing to aid you , JESUS will carry you through.

To the Jacobs and Harris Families,

Thank you so very much for sharing Sisti, your mom and sister, with me. Her joy for life, family and friends made everyone who knew her feel "at home" and accepted. There are countless memories of growing up in your house that bring a smile to my face and joy to my heart. There was always an abundance of laughter and love. My prayer for you is that you will cherish every moment you had with her, treasure each memory you made with her, and appreciate the legacy of your parents that God is perpetuating in all of you. May God continue to comfort you, strengthen you and keep you. With love and blessings...

To the Harris/Jacobs Families:

No greater love hath any child or sibling than the love, care and support on which you showered your mother/sister during her debilitating illness. She was my dear, childhood friend, and I was privileged and pleased to have enjoyed a renewed friendship with her, well before her illness, after the many years we lived at a distance from each other. She will be sorely missed but not forgotten. Your loss is my loss, and you have my deepest sympathy. God bless.

To Gabby and family,
I know it's hard when we loose a love one. And to know your Mom like I had a chance to get to know her was a blessing. I pray for God's peace and His comfort and supporting love only He can give you and your family. Lean unto Him for all you have need of. He is the only One that will see you through it all. Give this family Lord all that they are in need of right now Lord. He will never leave us or forsake us, He is always there when we need Him. I love you Gabby.

The Jacobs Family,
May the Lord comfort you at this time and all times. Unfortunately we have suffered the same loss over 3 years ago but Mom "Korte" will never be forgotten she lives on in our hearts and daily memories. We all still pick up the phone to call Mom and ask advice or a recipe, then you think about it and smile because you know she is at peace with the Lord. You will find things daily that remind you of MOM, just be happy you had all the years and good times with her and you will see her again one day.
