Mrs. Mary Lou Baugh, 95, of 1590 S. Sycamore St., Petersburg, Va., died on Monday morning, March 9, 2009, at Southside Regional Medical Center, Petersburg, Va.
Mrs. Baugh was the daughter of the late Mrs. Ida Williams and Mr. James Lee. Mrs. Mary Baugh was born in Montgomery County, Ala., on Nov. 2, 1913. She left the state of Alabama in her early years to live in New York City, where she met her husband, William P. Baugh (Pluck), while he was serving in World War II. They were married in New York City on Feb. 13, 1946. Mary relocated to Virginia with her husband and lived in Matoaca for 19 years. While living in Matoaca, Mrs. Baugh joined Union Grove Baptist Church and was baptized by the Rev. Bowles. She and her husband moved to Ettrick, where they lived for 20 years. After the death of her husband, Mrs. Baugh moved to 128 Sycamore St., Apartment 901, Petersburg, Va. She continued to attend Union Grove Baptist Church and the van picked her up every Sunday until her health failed.
She was faithful member of the Union Grove, where she served as a member of the Golden Circle, Missionary Society, King Davis Lodge #233 and an honorary deaconess. She received numerous awards and certificates for her volunteer services, most noted was her volunteer service at Southside Regional Medical Center.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William P. Baugh; nephew/godchild, Robert Ruffin; and niece/godchild, Diane White.
Mrs. Baugh leaves to cherish many special memories, great-nephew, Muhammad Sharif of Mount Vernon, N.Y.; cousin, Alma Duke of Toledo, Ohio; sister-in-law, Marie H. Baugh of Petersburg, Va.; devoted nieces, Alfreda McMurren, Alice Spriggs, Beatrice Johnson and Rosa Epps, all of Petersburg, Va.; a very devoted caregiver, Christine Barber of Petersburg, Va.; godson, Jeffery Mason of Petersburg, Va.; a host of other nieces nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 13, 2009, at Union Grove Baptist Church, 19111 Church Road, Petersburg, Va.; the Rev. Douglas Harris, interim pastor, and the Rev. Dr. Harold E. Braxton, pastor emeritus, eulogist. Interment to follow at Dinwiddie Memorial Park.
