Richard Freytag Obituary

FREYTAG, Richard (Dick)
Age 71 of Rocklin, CA, died peacefully at home on the evening of June 23, 2006, after a 2 year struggle with Lou Gehrig's disease (ALS). He was born on September 28, 1934, in Sebewaing, Michigan, to Herman and Regina Freytag, who predeceased him. After graduating from high school in Napoleon, Ohio, he attended Ohio University where he received a Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering. He began his career in Rochester, NY, where he met his wife, Barbara Freytag. From Rochester they moved to San Jose, CA where he pursued a career in the disk drive industry. When not working, he enjoyed traveling and going to new restaurants. His favorite outdoor activities included golfing, hiking, and he was an avid snow skier. Many trips were made to national parks with Yosemite as one of his favorites. Every other year, for the last 20 years, he would go to family reunions to see his brothers, sisters, cousins, nieces and nephews. This was always a joyous occasion for the Freytag clan and one of his fondest memories. His quick witted humor would always bring a smile to those around him. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Barbara, of Rocklin, CA; his son Chris and wife Christine of Nipomo, CA; his daughter, Tammy and husband Joel Commisso of Sutter Creek, CA; two sisters, Beverly and husband Jim Renfroe of Huntsville, AL, and Jan Augenstein of Avon Park, FL; four brothers, Walt and wife Karol of Clearwater, FL, Jerry and wife Marsha of Hudson, MI, Tom of Dallas, TX, and Ron and wife Mary of Mason, TX. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, great nieces, nephews, and cousins. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to your local hospice chapter or to the San Francisco ALS center as they continue to research the causes and cures for this difficult disease.

Barbara Freytag Grooms

July 11, 2006

I was sorry to hear of Dick's passing. It surprised me that he liked the outdoors. That's all we do here in N.C. We hike!! Also that he had a sense of humor. My brother Ken and Joel and sister Linda and myself all have a great sense of humor. Must run in the Freytag family. Just wanted you to know that we have been thinking about you and praying for you Barbara. Sincerely Barb Grooms
