John David Franklin "Apple John" McCall - WILMINGTON ISLAND - John David Franklin "Apple John" McCall, 99, died February 2, 2009 at Memorial University Medical Center. He was born in Clio, South Carolina and lived most of his life in Savannah. Mr. McCall was retired from Ackers Truck Lines, Roadway Express and Bomark Transportation. He was a charter member of First Baptist Church of the Islands where he served as a Deacon. He was a former member of the Exchange Club, the Lions Club, honorary chairman of the Georgia Motor Truckers Association and a Veteran of the United States Army. His wife, Muriel McCall, siblings, Irvin McCall, Annie Johnson, H.B. McCall, Macie Johnson, Tommie McCall, Ida Bell Meggs, Albert McCall and Howard McCall, preceded him in death. Surviving are his son and daughter-in-law, John F. and Gina McCall of Savannah; daughter and son-in-law, Marybeth and Barry Conaway of Savannah; brother, Paul McCall of Bennettsville, SC; sister, Lizzie Cox of Bennettsville, SC; two grandchildren, Alexis McCall and Serelle Conaway both of Savannah; niece, Sherry Chaffin and her husband, Richard of Savannah and thirty two nephews and sixteen nieces. Visitation: 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 4, 2009 at Fox and Weeks Funeral Directors, Islands Chapel. Funeral: 11:00 a.m. Thursday, February 5, 2009 at First Baptist Church of the Islands with Reverend Brooks Cail, officiating. Burial: Hillcrest Abbey Memorial Park.
