My husband (Retired Air Force MasterSergeant) & I just visited Snohomish for the very first time, here to celebrate our 36th wedding anniversary last week. As we parked we noticed the huge mural so we walked over to pay our respects and saw Jeffery´s lone name under Iraq. We paused for a moment of silence and when we got home from our trip I looked up his name & read all the articles so I could put a face to the stories. I´m so so sorry for your loss & I grieve for you in his memory. Thank you is NOT ENOUGH tho I have no other words to give you for this ultimate sacrifice. May you take comfort in all the memories made & know he is NOT FORGOTTEN. We were blessed to come across him in this memorial & we hold his name sacred & will HONOR him as we do every year with all the others, on Memorial Day as we participate in "Taps Across America". God bless you always, in His healing grace. Jerry & Jodi Lempka

I still think of this Marine, who gave his life in service of his Country. His words, 'leaving his mark' for our freedoms, as those who have before him, will stay with me the rest of my life. Godspeed Jeffery Starr! You are not forgotten!

It has been 2 years since my grandson Johnathan Wolfer returned from the 3/4 US Marine Corp. after three tours in Iraq. His sister Hope Carrasco is now serving in the 257th AZ Transportation Bat. in Iraq and has been there several month. They both had the honor to share a newpaper with your son Jeffrey. More days then I can count I think of Jeffrey and wish my grandson John and grandaughter Hope would have had the honor to have met him. Both John and Hope graduated from Snohomish High school. My prayers and thoughts are still with you daily. I cannot think of the war without thinking of Jeffrey. I signed this guest book before but just want you to know he is still in my thoughts and thank you for your sacrifice.

To the family of Cpl. Starr,
Please know that just as your loved one will remain in your hearts and minds, his sacrifice and that of your family, will remain with the people he died defending. Words cannot express the gratitude we feel for his bravery and selflessness, or the heartache we feel for your loss. God grant you the peace that passes all understanding.

Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.
The Wind on The Downs
“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”
(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )
Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….
“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”
I did not know Jeffrey, but I am remembering
his service. He is my hero. !

The Other Side
i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.
can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.
i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.
it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side
the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.
Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.
I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend who joined the Army with three other friends, one of whom is my son (Le Ron was killed in action on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

To the family and friends
I have only just begun this journey and may not have known your loved one personally.
I extend to you my deepest condolences. No words will ever express the grief those close to this lost treasure are feeling. I can only say that I can share this grief as I too lost a loved one July 8, 2006. I will continue to pray for the safety of our soldiers and especially the family and friends of our lost hero’s. I only hope the memories will carry us through. I will continue pray that you also will believe and know that our heavenly father will not give us more than we can handle.
As always I read (and cry) through the memorials of our lost hero’s, So many people have already expressed the things I would also say. I am amazed and take comfort that so many people care. I can only thank you for the sacrifice you and especially Jeffrey have made to protect our country. As others have said “I am only an email away.” I would be honored if you so choose to share about this fine hero.
Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Matthew 11:28

Jeffrey's parents, While my son was in Iraq this last deployement, I was reading an article on the internet about a U.S. Marine losing his life in Iraq. As I finished the article I realized the dates that Jeffrey was in bootcamp were somewhat the same dates my son was there. I got up to get his group picture, and found Jeffrey's picture and name on it. My heart broke. Just to know that it was someone my son had been with at bootcamp. It's heartbreaking enough to know someone, somewhere is losing a son,daughter,dad,uncle,etc...
My sympathy goes out to you and your family.
His name, along with two other names (that our family has lost in the past 2 years)are said in a prayer every night; that their souls be resting in peace at God's table; and for the souls of the thousands of other military personnel America has lost. I never knew Jeffrey, but who knows, maybe I passed by him and saw him in person that proud graduation day at MCRD in November of 2001.. never imagining that someday I would saying his name every night during prayer. I am so sorry for your loss.
Thank you Jeffrey, for your sacrifice. Semper Fi
God Bless You and your family.

It is hard to believe that a year has already passed since that day the Jeff left us to watch over all of us.
I got married in May, down in Las Vegas. One night my husband and I were walking by the fountains at the Bellagio, the song was God Bless the USA. It made me think of Jeff. Later that night my husband looked at me and said that was Jeff's way of saying hello. I was in tears.

I taught Jeff in 8th grade at Valley View Midde School. I still laugh at some of the jokes we shared in class back then (1995). His loss will always be felt and his legacy will be one for us to emulate. His laughter still echoes in my memory. God bless you my friend.

Psalm 23
1
The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not be in want.
2
He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters,
3
He restores my soul. He guides me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake.
4
Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.
5
You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.
6
Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.
This is a verse that I have found to be comforting to me during my husbands death. Remember that when it seems that no one else is round, God is still there with you! And he will be your rock!
My daughter,McKaLyne, and I send our heartfelt sympathy for your loss! God Bless this warrior, God Bless those whom serve freedom's cause! They are our true HERO's!!!!

Jeff and I started our time in the Corps together. We were in Golf Company at MCRD San Diego when we met. In the same platoon (Platoon 2003). Jeff was the scribe. We became Marines and then proceeded to SOI together at Camp Pendleton. From there we went to the 1/5 together. Jeff went to B Co. and I went A Co. Anyway to keep this short and sweet, he and I did our first two tours together and I just heard about his letter to his girlfriend and I read it.........he was/is a really good friend and this was the first time that I have shed any tears in a very, very long time. I love him like a brother and his memory will be passed on through me to my first born. (due in March) I pray that there are more out there like your son.

To the parents of Cpl. Jeffery Starr and the people of Snohomish: There are not many words that can express the pride and appreciation that I am feeling as I write this note. I read Jeffery's letter this morning and was profoundly touched by how courageous and clear he was about what he was doing for us. We now have proof that our soldiers today are no different than our soldiers of past wars such as WWII. I sit here with tears in my eyes because myself, my wife, and my three girls have lost a true hero. God Bless Jeffery Starr and all who celebrate his beautiful life.

I watched the flag pass by one day,
It fluttered in the breeze.
A young Marine saluted it,
And then he stood at ease.
I looked at him in uniform
So young, so tall, so proud,
With hair cut square and eyes alert
He'd stand out in any crowd.
I thought how many men like him
Had fallen through the years.
How many died on foreign soil
How many mothers' tears?
How many pilots' planes shot down?
How many died at sea
How many foxholes were soldiers' graves?
No, freedom isn't free.
I heard the sound of Taps one night,
When everything was still,
I listened to the bugler play
And felt a sudden chill.
I wondered just how many times
That Taps had meant "Amen,"
When a flag had draped a coffin.
Of a brother or a friend.
I thought of all the children,
Of the mothers and the wives,
Of fathers, sons and husbands
With interrupted lives.
I thought about a graveyard
At the bottom of the sea
Of unmarked graves in Arlington.
No, freedom isn't free.

To the Starr family,
I read of Jeffrey's death tonight on a website. It is a privilege for me to sign this guestbook.
Though anytime somebody so young loses their life it's tragic, I'm reminded of an old adage I once heard:
"No man is a fool who loses what he can not keep to gain what he can not lose."
To all of Jeffery's loved ones, especially the mother and father, I can only provide this for comfort. But I believe you'll understand what I mean.
What a reunion it will be one day when you see your son again!
To all of the family, thank you for Jeffrey.

This country is what it is because there are men and women who are so strong in their soul that they will lay down their life for a cause, in this case, a glimmer of what can be, for millions of others that they will never know. All I can say is thank you. Thank you for me, my family and my country. And my prayers are with you everyday...everyday.

I am deeply moved by Cpl. Starr's letter. My condolences to the family and friends of this great American, and above all, a heartfelt "Thank You" for sharing this brave man with your country.

While it is always sad to lose a person so young, it is overwhelmingly so in the case of Cpl. Starr. I read with tears of sadness and pride the letter Cpl Starr wrote to his girlfriend. He has honored us all through his clarity of purpose and his sacrifice for others. I wish I had had the opportunity to thank him personally. I hope that the Starr family will get this message and be comforted in the knowledge that many people care about them and respect their son's selflessness and patriotism. God bless you.

I'm reminded of the addage, "All gave some, some gave all." Cpl Starr gave his last full measure of devotion to his country and the cause of freedom in Iraq. His final letter reflects the selfless sacrifice of this great young American.

To the Starr family I had the privilage to serve with your son in OIF 2. We stood many long nights on post together, and of course I can't forget the longest firefight in Fallujah that we fought on the roof of house while we were pinned down, I was the guy to his left, let me say he is very brave and a tough marine warrior, you are missed but never forgotten, your fellow marine brother Cpl.Jacob Palafox

My prayers are with your family. I read a story about your son and although it brought a storm of tears it also made me proud to know of some of the great guys that are protecting our country. My husband being in Iraq right now, it makes you greatful for each and every letter and phone call. We thank you for your son's bravery and he will remain a hero and will be honored for lifetimes to come.

Thank you for the sacrifices you've all made. I cannot imagine how difficult this time has been for you. I want you to know that you are all in my prayers. What Cpl Starr and our other service members do for us is nothing short of amazing. I can only say that I could never be more grateful than to someone who sacrifices their life for me and does not know even know my name.
Emmylyn, my husband is a Marine currently serving in Afghanistan. While he is gone, my son and I are anxiously waiting for his retun. I cannot even think about living my life without him, and so I can only imagine the pain you are going through. Stay strong and keep your head held high.
Our prayers are with you all.

I served from 1992-2000. I didn't know Corporal Starr. I am most proud of myself that I can in some way be associated with a such a hero. We share the title we so earned and I am so proud to share that title with Jeffrey Starr. I can't imagine what his family and friends are going through, but if it is some comfort that some Marines like myself believe that dieing on the battlefield is the most honorable way to give it all to the Corps. We as Marines are not brainwashed, we are dedicated to our fellow Marine brothers and Our Marine Corps. If you are religious people have faith that your family received him in heaven and his second family of heros or Marines that have passed are taking care of him as we speak. May God bless you and yours and the Spirit and Life of Corporal Jeffery B. Starr. I will set my alarm to 2:30pm in honor of him, I will use it as a reminder everyday of the sacrifice he made for all of us. God Bless.

My heart goes out to your family, I also have a Snohomish graduate Marine LCpl.Johnathan Wolfer 111 serving In Iraq in the "Thundering Third" Marine as a gunner on a Humvee. He is home safe today from his 2nd term in Iraq and our worst fear is that he will leave us again in December for a 3rd test of God's FATE... My grandson was in a battle they called the "father's day masacre" and his eyes show the distance when he speaks of it. I cannot express how much my heart breaks for your loss and pray that St. Jude will remaine with you throughout your life giving you strength to remember such a brave and honorable Marine. It was a way of life to them as my grandson has taught me! I must end this message as my eyes cannot see the screen through the tears. Love & Sempe Fi

To the Starr family and friends,
I am a flight medic and I had the difficult task to fly him one last time, I didn't know Jeffrey, all I knew is he was a tall man. I did not want to put him in the back, so he rode in the front,I touched his shoulder, said a short prayer. The ride across the lake was solemn, when we got him out of the helicopter I had to look at his kevlar to know the name of this fallen heroe.

My dear friends. I am the wife of a honorable retired Marine. My husband served our country for 20 years. We recently retired and moved to Utah where he is now working for Union Pacific. Our oldest son is now following his footsteps and is going into the USMC on Monday (Aug 22) morning at 3:45 am. Our son, our baby - now a man, serving our country with honor, passion and love. My heart is filled with pride knowing that young men and women still serve with want, will and wisdom. I am humbled at this website and want to thank those other wives and mothers for supplying the stitches to keep the blanket of freedom together. God Bless You All. With respect, Cassidy Stuck

To the Starr family;
My son was/is a friend of Jeffs. He was with Jeff in Iraq. My son is still in Iraq. He told me what a wonderful person Jeff was. He told me, Jeff was one of his close friends. My son was deeply saddend by the loss of Jeff. He is getting a tattoo of Jeff on him when he returns to the states. He said that way he will never forget what Jeff did for his country, his family, his corp, his fellow marines. You will always be in our prayers, and my son will never let anyone forget Jeff. To Jeff's Family,
I attended Jeff's memorial service and was so very impressed with the character and quailty of this young Christain man and the family that gave him to us. I do not presume to know the depth of the grief you feel but I do want to know the faith and hope that you and Jeff have shown your community. As it says in John 5:24.(NEB)"In very truth, anyone who gives heed to what I say and puts his trust in him who sent me has hold of eternal life, and does not come up for judgement, but has already passed from death to life."
God speed Jeff. I look forward to meeting you one day and getting to know you better.

I never had the chance to meet Jeff but when my husband heard of his passing he wept. He is a hero that my children will learn about. He was with my husband in Fallujah Iraq. Because of him and a few other brave Marines my husband is alive after being seriously wounded.
Thank you for raising an incredible young man.
With much love

Dear Family and Friends of Jeff,
I was saddened to hear of your great loss. I was in the Navy and have many good friends in the Navy and Marine Corps who have served in this great struggle for freedom in a civilized world. Jeff's story is both humbling and inspiring. His sacrific helped perserve the life and liberty of my family. For this I am eternally grateful.
I was named after the first Martyr in the New Testament (Stephen who was stoned by followers of Saul prior to his conversion). Jeff and others who like him have died in the War on Terrorism are modern day Martys and are surely blessed in Heaven. Thank you for raising this fine young man. Your country owes you and your son a debt it can never repay. We will never forget Jeff. I will tell my children about Jeff's sacrific so they will know about the price that was paid for their most precious freedoms in our beloved land.
May God grant you comfort during this most trying time.

Dear Starr Family,
I graduated with Jeff and have known him for a few years, though we were not "close friends", I feel for your deep loss. To be honest with you, I never knew how brave and selfless Jeff was. All I knew for sure is he worked hard in school and took pride in what he did from P.E. class to J.R.O.T.C. May god bless you and your family. Jeff is now and will always be in my prayers.
God Bless you again,
