Hello,
We would like to express our deepest condolences and to also let the Burkhardt Family know that we recently sent Care Packages to American troops in the war zones. Each box carried a dedication sheet that includes the name, service information and a photo of your loved one, Travis L. Burkhardt US Army Sergeant. We recognize that this is a humble tribute, but we wanted you to know that it is heartfelt and made possible by thousands of like-minded individuals in the youth hockey community and beyond. We will not forget. May God Bless you and keep you strong.
Sincerely,
Charlie Gili & Family

Travis - I was in Baghdad the first half of last year, and every day I would see your name on one of the plaques set in the Division HQ to honor those who had given all. You are not forgotten.

I had the pleasure of Travis being my battle buddy in Basic Training (Aco 787, 95-96). We both scared to death that day on the bus.
I have been selected for MSG. As I sit here and reflect on this crazy ride. I could not help but think about how it began. Us sneaking "FATBOY CAKES" from the chow hall. I did not know about the incident until I ran into our buddy a couple of years ago in ANCOC. I found out I was in the area but moved out before details were released.
To you my everlasting friend, hold a spot for me up there. For I am finishing our fight down here. I am heading back over summer of 2010.
If I find myself at Camp Travis I will tell my guys about a wonderful solider and outstanding man.

”Honor and Remember” - “Project Compassion” We love our Soldiers! We love our country and we cannot express enough love and compassion to the families of our fallen heroes. War does not discriminate – It breaks our hearts to see the faces of the fallen. We want to give this gift to the hero’s Mother, Father and/or spouse. We are a 501c3 nonprofit organization! Almost 2,000 portraits have been completed and shipped to the parents and or spouse - at no cost as this is a gift from one American to another!
This is a gift! We have some wonderful sponsors who help with the costs, and only want you know that we care.
Contact us directly at [email protected] or go to www.heropaintings.com . If you have already had a portrait completed, we pray that you are enjoying the portrait and God Bless You.
Sincerely and Respectfully,
Kenna

It is difficult to know what to say since I want to express my sincere sympathy to the family and friends of Sgt Burkhardt. Please know that your loved one is not forgotten. I wish everyone impacted by this tragic loss strength and peace. I hope that Sgt Burkhardt knew that there are people in America who respect his great courage in serving as a member of the US military. Although I did not know him, I know that he must have been a very special person to be willing to do something that most Americans will never have to experience, and for that we can never say thank you enough.
Thank you Sgt Burkhardt!

To the family of Sgt. Burkhardt,
Please know that just as your loved one will remain in your hearts and minds, his sacrifice and that of your family, will remain with the people he died defending. Words cannot express the gratitude we feel for his bravery and selflessness, or the heartache we feel for your loss. God grant you the peace that passes all understanding.

Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.
The Wind on The Downs
“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”
(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )
Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….
“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”
I did not know Travis, but I am remembering
his service. He is my hero. !

The Other Side
i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.
can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.
i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.
it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side
the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

I MISS YOU TRAVIS
August 29, 2007
I had the very great honor of serving my tour as a battery commander in the camp that bears this soldiers name. Camp Travis served as my home and my soldiers' for 11 months and 20 days. I just wanted to let you know that the sign that bears his picture and name still proudly announces entry into the camp. God bless and God speed to all our soldiers.

If this person can stand in battle to ensure my freedom, then I will stand in grief with his/her family to honor him/her. For every fallen HERO there is a bright star that shines in the evening sky to remind us of the cherished gift we were given – even if for too short a time.
My heart breaks again as I sign yet another guest book of another courageous young soldier who gave their life so selflessly. I wish I never found myself in a position to have to sign another guestbook for the rest of my life, but I promised Le Ron A. Wilson (a dear friend KIA 7/6/07, 18yrs old) that neither he nor any like him would be forgotten and so I will continue until the day there is no longer the need.

SGT Burkhardt,
Thank you for being an exemplary soldier and a truly professional MP. When I worked with you at Fort Leonard Wood, I was so impressed with your good nature and sense of doing the right thing. You cared for your soldiers and you respected the military justice system - treating prosecutors and defense counsel equally well. The Army and the world miss you, and though I only knew you casually as an acquaintance, I miss you too. Til we meet beyond this world, God bless.
