My name is Jeff Dorhauer Fire Chief for the Osage Beach Fire Protection District in Osage Beach MO. On this past Saturday I participated in a Run for the Fallen here at the Lake. I was honored to do this in the Memory of Army Sgt. Ryan Campbell. I will never find the words to say Thank You for the sacrifice Sgt. Campbell made and the sacrifice your family continue to make for me and my family. You are in my thoughts and prayers and with your permission I would like to make the Run for the Fallen Yearly in Sgt. Campbells honor.

By all accounts, a wonderful man and consummate soldier. Please be aware that the late SSG Ryan Campbell is still honored and respected.

April 29th rapidly approaches us again and as usual I find sleep elusive. The days leading up the the anniversary of his departure grow increasingly difficult, and the passing of the years does little to diminish the pain. I plan each year to visit Ryan's final resting place on the anniversary and possibly meet his family. I feel that talking to his mother and sister in person may help me move beyond the point I find myself in and hopefully offer some comfort to them as well. But this year I once again will be unable to suffer the trip, last April I had a stroke and another one this Feb. As I weaken with the passing of time, I pray that strength finds his family. I know Ryan is in Heaven, it is those of us left behind that are weary. Please find solace in my words as they are written with the utmost respect and admiration. Many tears have been shed by many soldiers that knew him, served with him, or heard of his unselfish sacrifice. Just as there is a place for him on the traveling soldiers wall, there is a place for him in my heart

To the family of Sgt. Ryan M. Campbell:
Please know that just as your loved one remains in your hearts and minds; his sacrifice, and that of your family, remains with the people he died defending. Words cannot express the gratitude we feel for his bravery and selflessness, or the heartache we feel for your loss. God bless and keep you always.

I have tried many times to sign my entry to this page, but I guess I just wasn't ready yet. I was with Ryan when he was taken away from us. I was a Sapper, light engineer. Ryan was one of the 52 man security team that was protecting us. I have met him a few times on other missions. He was a good man no matter what criteria one used. He should not have been there that day, if he just hadn't been extended. I too am from Missouri and hear his name once in a while when people refer to Missouri Heroes. I do firmly believe he is a heroe for he saved my life that day, as well as the other lives of my men. I am saddened beyond words that he was taken and sometimes feel guilty that I made it out of there, but I know Ryan would not be honored if I didn't make the best out of my life that I can. I hope his family knows that there are many, many of us fellow soldiers that have cryied many tears over his noble and unselfish sacrafice. I further look foreward to seeing him in Heaven and thanking him personally.

It is difficult to know what to say since I want to express my sincere sympathy to the family and friends of Sgt Campbell. Please know that your loved one is not forgotten. I wish everyone impacted by this tragic loss strength and peace. I hope that Sgt Campbell knew that there are people in America who respect his great courage in serving as a member of the US military. Although I did not know him, I know that he must have been a very special person to be willing to do something that most Americans will never have to experience, and for that we can never say thank you enough.
Thank you Sgt Campbell!

Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.
The Wind on The Downs
“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”
(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )
Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….
“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”
I did not know Ryan, but I am remembering his service.
He is my hero.

The Other Side
i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.
can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.
i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.
it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side
the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

If this person can stand in battle to ensure my freedom, then I will stand in grief with his/her family to honor him/her. For every fallen HERO there is a bright star that shines in the evening sky to remind us of the cherished gift we were given – even if for too short a time.
My heart breaks again as I sign yet another guest book of another courageous young soldier who gave their life so selflessly. I wish I never found myself in a position to have to sign another guest book for the rest of my life, but I promised LE RON A. WILSON (a dear friend KIA 7/6/07, 18yrs old) that neither he nor any like him would be forgotten and so I will continue until the day there is no longer the need.

I want to say first of all how proud of this young man and I'm so very sorry for his families loss. I want the family to know that I am very proud of each and every person who fights for our rights here and gives us the freedom to live like we live. I have a brother right now serving in Kwait and I worry each and every day for him and everyone over there. I want to say that you have a very special place in my heart and thank you very much.
