Lindsey T. James Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 2, 2005.
Lindsey James had been married for just two months, and he wanted to be sure Valentine's Day was special. He made his mom promise that if he was unable to get his wife something, she would take care of a gift. James died Jan. 29, two weeks before Valentine's Day, but his mother made good on her promise. She gave his wife, Jasara, a locket with a picture of James and his name engraved on it. James, 23, of Urbana, Mo., was killed in Baghdad when an explosive detonated near his patrol. He was based at Fort Drum. After graduating from high school, James worked as a welder in Texas for several months before deciding to join the military in 2002. He said it was something he needed to do, even though his older brother, who served three years in the military, tried to talk him out of it. "I told him, I support whatever you do, but your timing sucks," said his mother, Sandra McFarland. The fun-loving James had a hard time keeping a straight face for his military picture. "See that grin on his face," McFarland said, as she pointed to a picture of her son. "That's Lindsey."

...every time I see a movie about combat in modern-day warfare (US Military), I reminisce about my time in service - I truly feel we are always fighting for that which is better in our experience and more correct within our existence.

Thank you for Sgt Lindsey T James service and Thank you to the family for your sacrifice. I just seen the sweetest picture on Face Book with 2 little girls with their juice and looks like a little juice for Sgt James as well. This made me smile and I am sure Sgt James was smiling down on this Memorial Day. God Bless Sgt James Family with Comfort and Strength. It will be an Honor to meet Sgt James when I get to Heaven.

Even though it has been a while since you lost Lindsey, I hope it comforts you to know that people unknown to you are remembering and honoring his sacrifice, as well as yours. Time has passed since Sgt Lindsey T. James left this world for a better place. I did not have the blessing of knowing him, but I do honor his life and honor his sacrifice of that special life for the freedom of us all. I believe that our soldiers are all the sons and daughters of all Americans and we are so very proud of every one of them. I know his family and friends continue to miss him greatly and to grieve yet, and I join you in your grief and want you to know that I will be praying for all of you from now on as you move forward with your lives. All of us have a short life even if we live to be 100 and that is why it is so important to live it to the fullest and to complete what God put us on this earth to do. I look forward to meeting Lindsey when my time comes to leave this earth. Lindsey, thanks for all that you accomplished throughout your entire life. We will not ever forget you. Take care and rest in peace, son.

Man It's been along time friend. I remember when you first came to RECON. You were just a country boy who kept me smiling. I will never forget when we went on a road march and you feet were raw from blisters. There was blood coming out of your jungle boots vent holes. you looked at me and said "my feet hurt." I said, It's ok you can stop you looked at me and said, "I can finish corporal." you finished! I cant say enough about you I love you. You were a true friend, I miss you. I remember how you let me use your blazer when I was getting out you really looked out for me, thank you.

If this person can stand in battle to ensure my freedom, then I will stand in grief with his/her family to honor him/her. For every fallen HERO there is a bright star that shines in the evening sky to remind us of the cherished gift we were given – even if for too short a time.
My heart breaks again as I sign yet another guest book of another courageous young soldier who gave their life so selflessly. I wish I never found myself in a position to have to sign another guest book for the rest of my life, but I promised LE RON A. WILSON (a dear friend KIA 7/6/07, 18yrs old) that neither he nor any like him would be forgotten and so I will continue until the day there is no longer the need.

Thinking about you as time has passed. Lindsey is spoken of by everyone here in the 2-14 family in our day to day lives and anytime there is a gathering with fond memories. I took photos of the memorial day after Jasara had already been at the memorial and placed the bouquet and my childern laid one yellow flower for each fallen soldier honored. There are many items on and around it placed by various people. I have placed photos here in the album so the tribute made could be seen by those far away. You are always in our hearts and minds.

I was looking through some old photos the other day, can't believe your gone. I found some pictures of Caleb, Me, and You Ice skating in Ithaca, NY. What times we had. I will always remember our road trips and the good times we had. My daughter asked who you were when I showed her your picture holding her when she was skating. I said that was your Uncle Lindsey. I think about you often and miss you. You will always be in our hearts. WOODY

Sgt.Lindsey James was a very special son, husband, and friend, even thou I didn't know him I can tell by others what a special young man he was. It is always difficult to loose a son, and you never get over the loss as time goes by you learn to live with it, as I lost my son several years ago. Lindsey memeories live on through you, and others. What a thoughtful caring, and kind husband he was to ask his Mom to buy that special gift, and you did, and his wife will cherish it forever.

My thoughts and prayers go with you and your family at this time. I found that for me talking about my son help me get through the days. My son-in-law is SSGBrian Wells, he new your son. God Bless you today and each day, and give you the strength and courage you need each, minute, hour, and day.

I did not really know Lindsey but my husband SSG Wells did. He spoke very fondly of him and was shaken of the news. Everyone here at Ft Drum has nothing but good memories and proud things to say of SGT James. I have heard many stories of what a great soldier he was adn of course a soldier that could be counted on. I can't begin to count the number of bracelets worn in his memory so he is never forgotten. My husband Brian was severly wounded at the end of the unit's tour and everytime I feel little sorry for myself and how our lives have changed due to our circumstances now, I think of James and his wife and family and you all put things in perspective... my heart aches and goes out to you all. We are so sorry for the loss of your hero. He is sadly missed by all, but his memory will be proudly kept alive forever in our hearts for eternity.
