In Memory of Charles ~ (Debra Estep)
May 22, 2008
Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.
The Wind on The Downs
“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”
(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )
Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….
“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”
I did not know Charles, but I am remembering
his service. He is my hero. !

The Other Side
i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.
can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.
i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.
it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side
the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

Charlie,
You are in my dreams and thoughts all the time. I remember being in Iraq with you, serving under two different units, crossing each other's paths. I remember working with you in the Corps... you always smiling, your joy of helping and seeing others happy was always inspiring. Do you remember the time cowboy Olson broke my arm during PT? You pulling my finger thinking it was fine...and the pain you caused me. I know you are watching over us. I miss you. You are an angel. RIP.

I first meet Charles at Camp Pendleton, CA in 2001. He was a LCpl and I was his Cpl in 01 field. He was a funny guy and his kids were just a cute as they could be. I miss you old friend, we all do. I will never forget you. Semper Fi...

I meet Charles during the first little bit of our deployment during OIF III. I'm really a shy person but he came to me after church one day and started a conversation. I remember the day like it was yesterday. I was so excited cause the week before I had been asked to give a talk next sunday. I worked so hard on that talk and wanted him to hear what I had put together. Then church came and went and no sign of him. Later that day I was told and it crushed me. I pray for your family all the time and love to tell what a great man he was/is. You've given the greatest sacerfice, and I thank God to have known and served with you.

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.
Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.
I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend who joined the Army with three other friends, one of whom is my son (Le Ron was killed in action on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.
REST IN PEACE, HERO, YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!

Charlie was such a special person to us, a wonderful brother and friend, but most of all a GREAT father. His children were everything to him. Charlie will be greatly missed by all of us in his family but will always be in our hearts, and we will one day have the opportunity to be with him again. We will miss him always.

I didn't know Charles that well, I feel like I do though. He married my sister in January. I put the video together for his funeral, as I went through all the pictures family members sent me, I feel like I really got to know him. You could tell by the pictures that he really loved his family, he had a great spirit. As a veteran myself, I'm so greatful for the men and women sacraficing their lives for our freedoms. I know I'll see him one day. I know my sister will always cherish the memories she had with him.

I knew Charles my whole career as a Marine. We were both stationed together in California and we sat right next to each other for over 2 years... We were unseparable from Camping in Big bear California to helping troubled teens in Pasedena Ca. We did it all together. Ironically we both got stationed in Kansas City together.. We hung out all the time.. Christmas dinner was the best time.. Soccor was his thing.. Boy was he good.. I'm gonna miss ya.. And I am still trying to overcome this tradedy.. We shared that blood stripe in the Corps and Marines will never forget you...I think about you all the time Chuck!!! Gino I'm still here in KC if you need me.. Semper FI Charles!!!

I had the opportunity to meet and get to know Charlie when he was dating my sister Tracy. I thought he was a wonderful man and he made my sister so happy. We all considered him part of the family, my children called him Uncle Charlie. My heart broke when he said he wanted to re-enlist in the Army and go to Iraq, but this was what he wanted and what he did well. I am so greatful for his service to this country. Charlie will be remembered always by my family. Charlie: you will be greatly missed and always loved. Someday I hope we meet again.

I didn't know Charlie but by knowing his step-mother Becky, who is my sister and his dad Tom is a blessing in itself. I'm sure that Charlie was good as gold just by knowing his dad. My condolences go out to all his family and I pray a special blessing upon them. I'm thankful for Charlie and all the armed forces serving to preserve our freedom and the freedom of those in other countries that Charlies' life and all the others will soon prove not to have been in vain.

Charles was our Nephew and Cousin. We knew him only through our uncle and brother in law Tom Wilkerson, the Father of Charles. We are proud to have such a brave young man and hero in our family, someone who selflessly gave his life so that the rest of us could keep our freedom. We will remember him in our hearts always. Our condolences to his Mother, Father, wife and children. May God give you peace and understanding in your time of need. WE PROUDLY PRAY FOR AND PROUDLY SUPPORT OUR TROOPS.

I never had the honor of meeting Sgt. Wilkerson, but I had the pleasure of hearing stories of his childhood experiences from my fiance' Matt. His loss has been felt deeply in our home. I count myself as fortunate to have men like Sgt. Wilkerson willing to defend our country. My heart and my prayers go out to those he leaves behind. God Bless him.

Dear Family, I do not know any of you personally, but I am a very patriotic American. My ancestors were in past wars. I owe a great debt to all of our servicemen in all the Armed Forces who are currently serving & to those who have given their lives for my freedom. Thank you for Charles (your son, husband, father, brother, uncle) who gave his life. God Bless & keep you all on this Memorial Day holiday.

Charley was my stepson but like a son to me. I have very fond memories of when he and his brother, Jose, lived with us. My daughter, Traci, was still at home and my son and daughter-in-law, Billy & Cricket Jones, knew him well also. I love Chuck and will miss him dearly although we didn't see much of him in the last several years. I know that we will see him again someday and be with him again in Heaven. I pray God's tender blessings on his family, especially his wife and children.
