I used to visit Sita (Beatrice's sister) every week and then the Coronavirus made it impossible as Sita is in a nursing home. Beatrice was and continues to be Sita's world. Beatrice's music, kindness and memory will always be with us. May you rest in peace.

We were close friends while I worked in Baghdad as an architect. We (my wife, my friend Panos and myself) attended her concerts, exhanged visits in our houses, met with her parents and brother (when he came to Baghdad for the funeral of their father), and of course her sister Sita. We have had a wonderful time together, as a family, her mother talking of her memories in Athens, and so much more. We will never forget our friend Beatrice.

I was deeply saddened to hear about the death of Beatrice Ohanessian.
I have known her long time ago; since I was a student in the Elementary school.
I used to go to her home a couple of times, with my eldest sister, for piano lessons. Those lessons brought into my life a lot of joy and excitements.
I have always admired her dedication to her work which she carried out with a high level of professionalism.
My condolences to her family, may God grant them peace and support.
She will always be remembered as a pronounced musician and a great teacher.
May God have mercy on her soul and accept her in his heavens.

I am saddened to learn of Beatrice's passing more than a year after it has taken place. She was a friend, teacher, mentor, and co-worker; but most importantly, a beautiful person. We met by chance through non-musical channels, but when she learned of my musical background, and I of hers, an immediate bond was formed. I had the great honor of studying with her for a short period of time in her home, and only regret that I didn't continue for much longer. My belated condolences go out to her dear sister, Sita, and to all those who are touched by the loss of our friend, Beatrice.

When I studied with Beatrice I felt I was introduced to a new perspective not only in music but also in life. She was humble and lovely. I am a better person and pianist for having known her. My condolences to Sita, thank you for welcoming me into your home for lessons with Beatrice.

I can still remember and hear her angelic piano music in my childhood from their Baghdad home in 52 street and district across our home that was seperated only by the ' Amou Chalabi's house hold home and our neighbour from our home in Baghdad.
A lose to the Iraqi music and history and should be commerated as one of the first Armenian leaders in her classical music field
May God bless her soul and rest in piece.

The angels lift up to the heaven .. there is a missing angel to play hymns.. I still hear the angelic sound of music coming from your piano.. the voice of your mother calling us for a cup of tea.. the Baghdad 52 street neighbourhood is still running in front of my eyes as if it was yesterday.. we all left the city we loved.. do you remember the Chalabi’s family?.. Dr Hagobian’s family? The evening gathering to drink tea in your garden.. the smell of the lemon trees.. the shade of the palm trees.. the music of the gramophone.. are all in my memory... We all grew old in a day that we never thought will come! Just like you, I miss Baghdad, I miss the beautiful days of our neighbourhood.. rest in peace my dear Beatrice, the angels will wake you up tomorrow to let you play one more hymn..
We will miss you dearly.. my sincere condolences to you, Seta..

I'm so grieved to read that
one the best teachers passed
away.
About one year ago, when I
called her, after having
known she's living here in
Miniapolice, and asked her to
visit us in Chicago, and she
promised to do shortly. But
death doesn't know heartfelt
communications. Now, I'm
writing this mourning
accompanied with heavy tears
frommy heart, declearing
that, Iraq, USA, and our
mankind had lost one of the
greatest musicians have ever
existed on our Glob.
My brilliant memories are too
much with her, whether at her
hose near the US Embassy in
Baghdad, or in the Fine Arts
Instute when I was studying
musics under her patronage.
Dear Beatrice, your your very
sad student will never forget
you, as long as there is a
gust of fresh air left on the
Earth.
Relax in peace, and Love of
our LORD, My Dearest Teacher.

Dear Bassim,
I was shocked when I read about the passing away of the great Beatrice Ohanessian. By her death Iraq lost a talented and skilled pianist who spent her life adoring the instrument she loved. Ohanessian is another pillar of Iraq's culture that falls down away from her home.
I had the honor to know her during my work in The Baghdad Observer during the 1980s. I had wrote about her concerts and had interviewed her several times.I used to visit her in her house in Baghdad. Sometimes I would be the only guest as she would sit to the piano and play some of the pieces of her next concert. She was keen on reviewing everything before being published, a tendency that not all publications agree to do. But with Beatrice Ohanessian it was different. Due to her reputation ,the people in the Observer, agreed that she knows the final shape of the article. Despite her fame ,her outstanding talent , she was a very nice person,so easy to deal with.During talking with her, she would never let you feel that your are a stranger.
Bassim, I really feel sorry for not asking you about her whereabouts. There some people who stay in your memory and the late Beatrice was one of those. I was impressed by her personality.
I also feel sorry for those talents whom we are losing every day. People who have spent their lives in building careers and in introducing great art for the public ... and found themselves forgotten during their life times. Let us hope that there will be others who will help keep their works for the next generations.
May God to rest her soul.

Hello Amou Bassim.
Sad loss! A great Iraqi artist and a pillar in music. No doubt the history books of Iraqi music will immortalise this awesome personality. I was in the University of Mosul when she did a concert at Nineveh Oberoi in the late 1980s. I was lucky enough to sit only few meters away from her and watch her fingers touch the piano; I was thrilled, touched, and couldn’t take my eyes away. I simply witnessed and experienced everlasting moments of magic!
May God Bless her soul and continue to Bless the rest of her family.
Kind regards & thanks

In today's Iraq, unfortunately, death has become a normal daily event. However, every now and then, we are so shocked to hear of certain people passing away, as if they were supposed to be immortal, and Beatrice was certainly one of those. She was a part of our country's heritage, and shall remain so, urging new generations to follow step and devote themselves to humane causes.
I pray the Lord to rest her sole in peace and May she be blessed with eternity in heaven.

We were sadden by this lose; Beatrice Ohanessian was a pillar in Iraqi understanding and appreciation for western music. She trained many young Iraqi musicians in the Baghdad Institute of Arts, and brought western music through her piano recitals to millions of Iraqis through the Iraqi television. I had the honor to watch her elegant performance and personality through television for so many years as member of the general audience, and much closely during my years working in the Iraqi television. Iraq and the Iraqi Armenian community lost a great and beautiful human being

I had the opportunity to share Beatrice's music with many people. We took turns playing at Dayton's at Southdale. She would come in and I would invite her to play. Within minutes, crowds would gather - always. They would stand wordlessly, listening to her and she would always receive warm ovations. More than her music however, what truly impressed me was her gentle but strong spirit and her eternal humility. I think it is very rare to find such a gifted artist whose spirit is also filled with such grace and generosity toward others. I will miss her dearly. She has a beautiful and gentle soul.

It was a great honor to have known Beatrice Ohanessian, concert pianist, teacher, colleague and friend.
Honest, gracious, gentle and wise are some of the words that come to mind to describe this most beautiful human being. In a world that seems to be preoccupied with war and rumours of war, her passing is a devastating loss.
I convey my sincerest condolences to Beatrice Ohanessian's immediate family. May the Peace that passeth all understanding comfort them in their time of sorrow.

Beatrice was my teacher at the University of Minnesota while Paul Shaw was on sabbatical.....She helped me change my technique and tranported me to a new level that has changed my life as a pianist and a teacher forever. She was so encouraging and patient in spite of the difficulty I was having. She inspired me to become better than I ever could have had I not had that year with her. She was a wonderful lady....Her spirit and enthusiasm and sense of humor will stay with me always. I will never forget her!
