He attended Colgate University from 1958 to 1962, and he graduated with honors, earning degrees in both mathematics and physics. While at Colgate, Dr. Feminella won the Osborne Math Prize for the highest average in mathematics, and he was a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity. Dr. Feminella received his graduate medical degree from New York Medical College in 1966, and he did his residency training at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center from 1968 to 1972. During his training at Columbia, Dr. Feminella published several notable papers, and he and his colleagues were among the first to suggest the role of communicable diseases in genital carcinogenesis. Dr. Feminella also published research on the cancer associated antigen test to detect urological cancers. After residency training, Dr. Feminella moved to Petersburg, Va., where he practiced as a board certified urologist for 35 years. Dr. Feminella also received several honors from grateful patients, who established scholarships in his name at both his medical school and residency hospitals. Aside from other accolades, Dr. Feminella received one of his most significant and unsolicited achievements by being named a Top Physician in the Guide to America's Top Physicians in 2004-2005, published by the Consumers Research Council of America. He is survived by his beloved wife, Jayne; and his devoted and loving daughters, Dr. Jayne Noel Feminella and Joy Elizabeth Feminella; his sister, Evelyn Unger; nieces, Jennifer and her husband, Steve Croston, Eve and her husband, Kevin Lignelli; brother, Stanley and his wife, JoAnn; and nephews, John and Forbes Feminella. Noel: I was so sorry to hear about your Dad. He was always a joy when he would come into the drug store. If Ed were here , he would feel the same. "Doc" was always so appreciative for Ed's and my help encouraging you to attend pharmacy school. I'm very proud of you for getting your doctorate and obtaining your license. I know your Dad felt the same way.

How thankful I am to have been one whom John called a friend. His generosity spoke his beautiful heart to me and my family. The funeral service was a testament to the man he was as a friend, father and husband. Our hearts are with you, Jane, Noel and Joy. I was a patient of Dr. Feminella from 1979 until he retired in 2006. He was the only Doctor I actually looked forward to visiting. So kind, So Caring, So Encouraging and Uplifting. Thanks for your care.

To the Family of the Greatest Doctor
Dr Feminella took care of me from 8 until I was in my teens he was the kindest man and Doctor I have ever met. He saved my life when I was ill and always went above his call of duty. To say you knew him is an honor he left a lasting impression on everyone that knew him and will deeply be missed. Im 33 now and never have forgotten him throughout my life. Rest in peace

Dr. Feminella was one of the most caring and generous physicians I have ever worked with in my nursing career. He was never too busy to stop and talk, educate, and be a friend to all. My husband and I were both patients of his and we both loved him and respected him. My thoughts and prayers are with his family. Such a loss for all.

My thoughts and prayers are with you all during this difficult time. He was a WONDERFUL man and touched many, many hearts. I don't know if I would be where I am today without his encouragement, support and words of advice. He will always have a special place in my heart.
