We met in the summer of 1970 at a restaurant called Noah's at the oceanfront in Virginia Beach. Noah Deal was the brother of Bill Deal of Bill Deal and the Rondells the famous beach music icon. My mother and I went for burgers and he was there with friends. He came over to our table to say hello as he recognized my mother from our neighborhood in Portsmouth where surprisingly we both grew up not a block from each other. Another coincident was that we now lived in the same apartment complex. The rest is history. We married on September 2, 1972 and the following year welcomed our beautiful daughter in to the world. We shared a lifetime of memories even though we did not stay together. I will sign off as Pookie his pet name for me.

I would like to thank everyone for their loving words about my Dad. It is so overwhelming to read these comments & yet I need to hear them all the same. I feel at peace knowing that he was loved by so many & loved so many. I will miss my fathers laugh the most. I will miss the way he smelled. I will miss knowing the man all of you love & respect. I was with him at the end & told him i loved him. That was a gift from God above. He was not alone. Until we meet again Daddy- your little girl loves you endlessly. To all of you, thank you. God Bless you all.

Oh my. I'm so stunned. My heartfelt sympathies to Kelleigh, Justin, Tracy, Betty, Aubrey, and so many other family & friends. Having known Charlie for 24 years, having just spoken with him a few weeks ago, I am at a loss to know what to say.

He was one of my best friends ever, he was a mentor, he was "my" commander in so many respects...and we were PICs, as it were. As a military leader, he had no equal....and as a friend, he was steadfast and true.

We worked and played hard, but he always showed utter respect for me. His love for his family and friends was boundless.

Rest in peace, old soldier!
