Darrel Floyd

Darrel W. Floyd passed away on 1 October 2025.

Darrel was born in Logan Utah to J. Whitney and Virginia Payne Floyd, the eldest of four children. He grew up in Logan and Providence, graduating from South Cache High School. He attended Utah State Agricultural College before enlisting in the U.S. Army; after completing his training in radar he served eleven months in Korea, where he gained an interest in Asian food. After his active duty he resumed his studies at Utah State University and served in the U.S. Army Reserve. He met Karen Sorenson at Utah State University, and they married on 21 February 1958. He began working at Thiokol in 1958 where he was involved with nondestructive test, electronic maintenance, and retired

Facilities Engineer.

Simultaneously he served in the United States Coast Guard Reserves. He served two tours as CO and retired with rank of Commander. After moving his family to Plain City, he earned his bachelor's degrees in business and accounting at Weber State. He greatly enjoyed and was proud of his service in the Coast Guard. He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints serving in a variety of callings. He served a Stake, Inner City and a full-time mission with Karen in the Philippine Quezon City North Mission.

The family loved to explore ghost towns and camped all over the West. Later he enjoyed taking friends to houseboat on Lake Powell as well as visiting time shares in various states. He then moved on to taking cruises. He has been to more than 50 countries, including teaching a semester of English language enrichment to 2nd graders in China. Darrel raised a great garden every year for decades and loved sharing the produce he grew. He was a great storyteller and an amazing cook who had an adventurous spirit. Most of all he was a kind and loving husband, father and grandfather.

Together Darrel and Karen were blessed with five children, seventeen grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, one son Gregory Ivan, his 3 siblings, Lyman John "L.J", Beverly Welch and Dianne (Dee) Call, and three grandchildren, Amber, Cassandra and Ryan. He is survived by his wife Karen, his sons Brad, Rory (Polly), daughters Alissa (Friend) Weller and Michelle "Misty" Rowan, 14 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren, his sister-in-law Ann Asay Floyd and brother-in-law David Welch.

A public viewing will be held Friday the 10th 6:00 -7:30 p.m. at Myer's Mortuary: 845 Washington Blvd Ogden, Utah. Funeral services will be held Saturday October 11th beginning with a viewing at 10:30 a.m. with services following at 11:30 a.m. at the LDS church located: 787 E 1700 N North Ogden, Utah. Interment at Logan Cemetery.
