Mark Lind Obituary

Published by Richmond Times-Dispatch from Nov. 1 to Nov. 7, 2008.
LIND, Mark Albert Carter, died on October 28, 2008, at the University of Virginia Hospital, following a courageous battle with Burkitt's Leukemia. He was 24. Carter was the son of Norah Hardin Lind and Thomas Martin Lind; and the brother of Mary Clark Hale Lind of Manakin-Sabot, Virginia. Born September 7, 1984, in West Palm Beach, Florida, Carter attended the Benjamin School in North Palm Beach prior to moving from Jupiter Island, Florida, to the Richmond area in 1993. He graduated from St. Christopher's School and attended Clemson University. He was the founder and president of Project Auto Salon, an automobile modification operation in Charlotte, North Carolina. He is remembered for his gentle kindness, sharp wit, and philosophical commentary. He will be missed-a life cut short. In addition to his parents and sister, he is survived by his aunts, Janelle Hardin Morton of Pasadena, California, Mary Welby von Thelen of Charlottesville, Virginia, Mimi Lind Rufe of Hockessin, Delaware, Mindy Lind of Plantation, Florida; and uncles, Clark Lind of Jupiter, Florida, Rob Lind of Evergreen, Colorado, Jon Lind of Sarasota, Florida; and many devoted cousins, including his beloved crib mate, Rosalie Morton of Charlottesville, Virginia. He was the grandson of Mark and Katherine Guiff Hardin and Albert and Mary Clark Lind. The family welcomes friends for a memorial gathering at their home in Manakin-Sabot on Saturday, November 8, at 4 p.m. Contributions in memory of Carter Lind may be made to the University of Virginia Health Science Development Office, P.O. Box 800773, Charlottesville, Va. 22908. Carter's Memorial Fund will be used to enhance the lives of other cancer victims at the University of Virginia Medical Center.

Tom, Norah, and Mary Clark,
Your eMail caught me off guard and crushed me. I knew Carter was gravely ill, but your updates always brought me hope for a recovery.
I can’t imagine the grief and sorrow your family is feeling, but want you to know that you continue to be in our hearts and prayers. I will always remember Carter for the young man he grew up to be. “A life cut short” is an understatement as he had so much potential.
I always took it for granted Carter would be around forever and there was plenty of time to get together. Life is good at throwing you curves.

Our sincere condolences,

The Bells,
Jeb, Eda, Ellie, Jamie, Charlie

Dear Norah,

I teach in the English program over at VCU's branch in Qatar and wanted to tell you and your family how sorry I am for your great loss. I get the strong impression Carter must have been a unique and wonderful young man. How terrific it would have been to have known him as a student.

My thoughts are with you and yours, and I am praying for the Lord to give you great comfort, hope, and the peace that moves beyond understanding in this very difficult world in which we must live.

My Very Best to You,

To the Lind family,

I would like to extend to you my deepest sympathies and condolences. Although I have only gotten to know Carter over that past several years, I consider him one of my closest friends and feel fortunate to have many fond memories of him. He never ceased to amaze me with his benevolence and uncanny ability to bring a smile to people’s faces. His philosophy on life was truly one of a kind and I have taken a lot from it. I feel honored and privileged to have known Carter, he will truly be missed.

Respectfully,
Sean Morris

My thoughts and prayers go out to the Lind family.

Some of my most fond memories growing up were when Carter and I were able to play together. Even then he loved cars, we logged many miles on crawling behind our hotwheels. I remember we used to roll our cars down the track for the chair lift on the stairs in the house on the island... I seem to recall our parents frowning on that behavior however.

I will always look back and smile.

Dear Tom and Norah,

My heart and prayers go out to you, as well as Mary Clark, and all the other family and friends that were close to Carter. May you know and feel the love of friends and family as you go through this time of grief.

I will always remember Carter as one of the sweetest little boys I have ever known. I'm sorry I didn't know the young man he turned out to be.

May God be with you and carry you through this.

With love,
Debbie
