Virgil Price III Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on May 14, 2024.
West Palm Beach - (October 19, 1984 - May 12, 2024) On Sunday May 12, 2024 Virgil M. Price, III, Age 39, tragically disappeared at sea while free-diving and spearfishing near a World War II shipwreck off of Florida's Atlantic coast. He graduated from the Benjamin School in North Palm Beach and attended Davidson College. He was an incredibly skilled freediver and instructed many people on the sport as a part of Florida Freedivers. From an early age he was drawn to music, wildlife and the ocean. He was adept at multiple different instruments including piano, bass guitar, and mandolin to name a few. He shared his gift of music while playing in local bands. He is survived by his father, Virgil M. Price II, his mother, Kathleen Cerasaro, his sister Brit Drozda, brother in law Zack Drozda, Gail Obenour, his stepfather Adriano Cerasaro, his grandmother Shirley Mulligan and his niece and nephew. He will be reunited in heaven with his previously deceased grandfather Jim Mulligan of whom he was incredibly fond of throughout his life and his previously deceased grandfather Virgil M. Price. Virgil's fun-loving playful spirit touched the lives of so many throughout his all too brief 39 years. He will be extremely missed.

A memorial service will take place on Monday, May 20, 2024 at 4 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church (717 Prosperity Farms Rd, North Palm Beach, FL 33408) followed by a celebration of his life immediately following the service at Bradley's (104 S Clematis St, West Palm Beach, FL 33401) All are welcome to celebrate our dear son, brother and friend.

When our children were so young we would spend time together in Palm Beach. I always remember Virgil as "little Virgil" although he towered over all of us. It is hard to digest that he is no longer with his family, yet, in a deep and endless way he always will be with you, Kate and Brit.. I believe his beautiful soul is now in the hands of God loving and being loved. My deepest thoughts and prayers are with you, Kate and Brit. Jane C Levien

Virgil was a friend and kindred spirit. He was my free diving and spearfishing mentor and I will miss him dearly. I have pictures and video of Virgil let me know how I can get them to you. He was a true kind soul.
I am so sorry again....

I remember fishing with Big & Little Virgil as well as my grandfather during the Spanish Mackerel run back in the late '80s off the coast of Palm Beach. It was one of the best days I have ever had on the water. We filled a cooler with Mackerel and had such a memorable time. Our families also went to visit the Price's up in Connecticut one summer. I have vague memories of the trip, mainly foot long hot dogs & cobblestone streets, but I remember it being such a novel experience for a young boy from GA to be able to go up north to experience something so different from Sea Island/coastal Georgia where my parents met. I will really miss Virgil as we reconnected in the past several years. I wish I had stayed in touch with him a little better as we got older and lived in different cities. He will live on in my memories. Such a sad day :(

I taught Virgil when he was a sophomore in my Honors English class. He was a marvel. His empathy and sense of humor shined in everything he did. He played basketball and music with the same passion he approached friendship and work. Seeing him discover his love of free diving - watching via Facebook - made me so happy for him. He loved to dive and even more to share it with others, help them learn and grow. He did everything with curiosity, optimism, and excitement. The world has lost some of its light with Virgil´s passing. But I think he will find a way to shine on in the ones he loved.

Virgil was a student of mine at the Benjamin School, and I so clearly remember his energy and enthusiasm in all that he participated in. Fast forward to the 2020s, I remember going to see a band and thinking how joyful the keyboardist was...and then he picked up two other instruments to play! When the band took a break, this keyboardist asked, "Is that you, Ms. Miss?" and I then realized it was Virgil! He was a far cry in looks from the uniformed prep school days, as he had long hair, all kinds of jewelry and tattoos, but he was the same big smiling, enthusiastic Virgil. He told me about his passion for music and freediving and showed me a pictures of dogs and diving. He gave me the biggest hug and I could not wait to see his band again. Virgil was a true Renaissance man - a scholar, an athlete, a musician and an all around engaging, kind person. My sympathies and prayers to his family.

My sympathies to the entire family, but mostly to Virgil's mother, Kate . Virgil and my son Brett were born about a month apart. Kate came to Virigina for Brett's (my son) christening, and I got to see her beautiful little boy! I am so shocked to hear this news. I hope that wonderful memories will soon fill the emptiness.
Much loves & God Bless!

I was deeply saddened and shocked to hear the tragic news about Virgil. Although we have been separated by time and distance, I remember him well. I was the Athletic Director at The Benjamin School when I first met the family. The entire family jumped into the school with both feet. Their support was huge and I very much appreciated all they did.

Both Virgil and Brittany played basketball and help both the boys' and girls' teams to State Titles. Virgil was a team player and liked by all. He had an infectious smile and was always upbeat.

My condolences, thoughts, and prayers go out to his family.

My sympathies to the entire family. I didn't know Virgil but had known his parents from when I worked in Palm Beach. I was shocked to hear this news and of course the loss of a child is unbearable pain. I hope that wonderful memories will soon fill the emptiness and replace the sorry you feel now

I met Virgil doing freedive training years ago. He was an amazing instructor that I looked up to. He always had a positive spirit and an amazing outlook on life with an infectious smile. He touched so many around him and he will be deeply missed. I will hold on to all the laughs, smiles and good times we had over the years. My deepest condolence's go out to his family. Virgil was the first person to welcome me and bring me into the fold at The Benjamin School when I transferred there in high school. He introduced me to the school as well as some of my still favorite bands, and was the first friend I had that was in a band (Baxter!). I have incredibly fond memories of his warmth, his kindness, his generosity, and his fun and adventurous spirit. He will be sorely missed.

My sincerest condolences to his amazing family and all the people that were fortunate enough to know him.

I met and knew Virgil through my friendship with Ben Childs and Christie Pinello. Virgil was forever crashing on their couch, playing music with Ben, and loving all the critters he could get his hands on. The story of his loss has reached me all the way out in Portland, Oregon.

I want to send my deepest sympathies to his family and friends.

And I´d also like to share this thought I keep having, which is man....what a way to go. I can see Virgil standing at the gates of heaven and the soul next to him asks "so, how did you end up here?" To which Virgil replies "I died
doing something I loved. Free diving in the ocean. I died amongst the waves".

Handsome man with so many talents! I was at the Improv comedy class last year and he was going on stage like it was the easiest thing to do. He didn´t have to say much and people were already laughing... I just found out today and I´m shocked like I´m sure everyone else is. He had this `je ne sais quoi´ that attracted everyone. No one will forget you!

I had the absolute pleasure of meeting this incredible human, in a comedy class. We instantly connected over animals, and a shared sense of humor. He was a light, in a world that needs it. Virgil will be missed by so many.

While I only knew Virgil for a short time, he had a huge impact on my life as a freediver. He was my instructor for both the assistant and instructor courses. I've never met someone who was more in tune with the water than Virgil. I looked up to him, not only because of his skills in freediving and spearfishing, but also his attitude. As an instructor, it's easy to become jaded, but Virgil seemed to always enjoy working with students. I try to keep that attitude alive when I teach, and I'll always remember him.

Mr. Price, Kathleen and Brittany please receive our deepest condolences. I have very found memories of Virgil in my childhood from playing baseball in front of the house, to seeing Virgil drive the gulf cart like there is no tomorrow, to having dinner in Nantucket and him just smiling at everything while driving his bicycle. I cherish those memories, since he was a wonderful person who made others feel welcome and loved. Thank you for those wonderful moments. We sent our love and prayers. Juan Lobo

Virgil Price III, a man of boundless enthusiasm and compassion, has left behind a legacy of adventure and love. With a passion for music, water diving, and animals, particularly his beloved pit bull dog, Jolien, Virgil's zest for life was infectious. He held a deep respect for his father, Virgil Price II, and cherished his mother, Kathleen, and sister, Brittany, with unwavering love. Known for his joyful spirit and genuine interest in others, Virgil's kindness and love will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His appreciation for Honduran food was just one aspect of his vibrant personality that touched the lives of those around him. Virgil Price III will be deeply missed but fondly remembered for his warmth, generosity, and zest for life.

I´m a neighbor of Virgil´s and first met him when my parrot was on the porch and Virgil noticed him and told me he had tropical birds and would I like to see them... We became acquaintances after that and would have conversations outside from time to time, mostly about his dogs or Dudley, his cat, who spent time with me and my cat when he wanted company and a bite to eat.. I´d text Virgil from time to time if I had a question about Dudley or the dogs and he´d always respond back quickly.. He had such nice manners and was a very fun, charming person. Virgil was the age of my grandson and reminded me of him, and although our lives only touched briefly I will miss his presence across the street...
My condolences to his parents, sister, and all those many close friends who will miss him so much... Irene Lindon

There are four things that resonate when I think of Virgil. He passion for music, which he generously shared with me, especially during his time at GCDS. Two, his infectious laugh that echoed throughout the hallways; no one found greater joy in life than Virgil. Third, Virgil delivered the single best public speaking address during my time at Country Day when he delivered a hysterical excerpt from John Irving's A Prayer For Owen Meany concerning "Dr. Dolder's Volkswagen Beetle." And fourth, Virgil's passion for life, which defined him as a human being. I will see you on the other side, my friend.

I went to elementary school with Virgil where he was about a head taller than everybody else. But that´s not what made him so memorable. What I remember most is his kindness. He was always happy and smiling and was so genuinely at ease in his own skin. At a time when everybody is trying to figure out who they are and establish their own place in the social pecking order, Virgil was kind and generous with everybody and floated with ease among groups and individuals. To this day I can still recall his smile. The world lost a bright light.
