MASSAD, Peggy Joyce Davenport, 78, of Richmond, Va., passed away on November 13, 2008, surrounded by her loving family. Peggy was an incredibly caring wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, and was the heart of her family. She was born July 20, 1930 in Glebe Point, Va. She was the daughter of the late John W. and Pearl Davenport. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her sister, Julia; and her brothers, Floyd and Alvin. Peggy is survived by her husband of 58 years, John S. Massad; her four children, Mary Jane Hogue and her husband, Harvey, Abe Massad, Liz Ashby and her husband, Conor, and John Massad Jr. and his wife, Cyndi; five grandchildren, Ashley Hogue Van der Waag and her husband, Warren, Alicia Hogue, Elizabeth Hogue, Ned Nielsen III and Peyton Massad; a great-grandson, Griffin James Van der Waag; and a host of devoted family and friends. Peggy was happiest when she was planning celebrations for her family's birthdays, holidays and Monday night dinners. Her generosity of love and spirit touched all. Peggy's family would like to thank the many family, friends and neighbors who shared in her life. A visitation will be held at Bliley's-Central, 3801 Augusta Avenue, on Sunday, November 16, 5 p.m. A celebration of Peggy's life will follow at 6 p.m. Funeral and burial services will be private. No words can express the sorrow we feel when one passes. Always, remember that the she is with the Lord now and there is no sadness or discomfort. She is at peace and rejoicing in the glory of Jesus. I worked as a temporary when the switch from Downtown to West End showroom happened. I was always touched by the family, especially Liz. May your family find comfort in sharing stories and embracing the love that she gave to all.
