Cardwell Hannabass Obituary

Published by Richmond Times-Dispatch from Nov. 22 to Nov. 23, 2008.
HANNABASS, Cardwell Ferguson, 90, had a joyful reunion with his wife of 42 years, Natalie Rohland Hannabass, when he passed away on November 20, 2008. "Card" is survived by a large and loving family, including his seven children, Mary Lou Barritt and her husband, Sid, Suzanne Grandis and her husband, Les, Natalie Rude and her husband, Bob, Billy Hannabass and his wife, Linda, Ellen Edmonds and her husband, Steve, Cardie Hannabass and his wife, June, and John Hannabass. He is also survived by his 18 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Card attended the McGuire's University School and graduated in 1941 from Virginia Tech (or "VPI" as he called it), where he was a proud member of the Corps of Cadets and later a lifetime member of the Ut Prosim Society. He was also a veteran of World War II. The family would like to thank the staff at Brighton Gardens and the Hospice Community Care for all their wonderful assistance over the last several years. His family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. on Sunday, November 23, at the Central Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 3215 Cutshaw Avenue. A graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. Monday, November 24, in Oakwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 4600 Cox Rd., Suite 130, Glen Allen, Va. 23060, or a charity of your choice.

Mary Lou and Members of the Hannabass Family,
I was very sorry to hear of your loss. The notice of your Dad's passing has brought back a flood of memories--very pleasant and positive memories. It is at times like this that we realize how valuable the bonds that we formed early in life really are and how they shaped our lives. Your Dad and your family have provided me with many valued memories.
May God be with you at this difficult time.
You're in my thoughts and prayers.

Dear Linda and Billy -- I'd like to offer my condolences on the loss of your dad. I still call the place next door to me Hannabasses. Jesse thought alot of your dad. The last time I saw Mr. Hannabass was at Billy's wedding. My love and prayers to all the Hannabass Family. God blessed you all with each other to comfort and love one another during this difficult time. May you experience God's grace as you go through the funeral today and throughout the holiday season.

Dear Ellen, I was so sorry to see that your Dad passed away recently. I know of his struggles with Alzheimer's, and also know how devastating it is for the whole family. He certainly lived a full life with much love from such a large loving family. You are in our thoughts and prayers.
