Russell C. Brown

BROWN, Russell C., of Richmond, departed this life January 18, 2009. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lois Wynn Brown. He is survived by one daughter, Beverly Brown Payne; three grand-children, LaShawn, Robert Jr. and Rahsaan Payne; 10 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Ida M. Moss and Bettie Fitzgerald; a host of nieces, nephews and cousins, among them, a devoted nephew, Earl N. Wynn; one son-in-law, Robert L. Payne Sr.; one sister-in-law, Ethel Ray Brown of Baltimore, Md.; and other relatives and friends. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served during World War II. He was also a member of Lone Star Lodge, Order of Odd Fellows, Inc. and the Richmond Jazz Society. Remains rest at Joseph Jenkins Jr. Funeral Home, 2011 Grayland Avenue, where the family will receive friends from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Funeral services will be held Friday, 12 noon, at Mt. Vernon Baptist Church, 1902 Rosewood Avenue, where he had a lifetime membership, and where remains will lie in state one hour prior to funeral time. Dr. Sylvester Smith officiating.
