My prayers are w/the family at this time. It is never easy to loose a "loved one" but we have to remember he has gone to his rewards in Heaven.

My sincerest condolences to the family of Robert "Bobby" Polera. I knew both Robert and "Ricky," who both proved to be exceptional athletes while at Thomas R. Proctor High School during the early 1970s. I, too, am a twin and share that sacred common ground known exclusively to twins. My vivid recollections of both Robert and Rick are the many fun Saturday hockey games we and several other boys played on the pond on Pond Lane during the winters of our youth. And, of course, I saw both brothers play football and baseball at Proctor. I was one of three equipment managers for the Proctor varsity football team from 6th grade till the 9th grade -- 1971-74. And, of course, I remember their devoted dad to be one of the most good, decent, and gracious people I came to know during those years. One never forgets the wonderful folks who impacted one's life in positive ways. Mr. Polera gathered a group of men from the East Utica Optimists Club on a warm, sunny Saturday April morning in 1976, to build a wheelchair ramp to my childhood home (a block from Proctor High School) months after I suffered a spinal cord injury. Me, my parents, and six siblings never forgot that act of selflessness. So, I've no doubt that the Polera twins were blessed with great parents! May Robert's wife and sons, Rick, Mr. and Mrs. Polera, find meaning in their too-soon loss and draw comfort knowing that God is good in sharing such a fine human being with you the past many years.
