WELCH, Paschal Ewart, of Pamplin, died Wednesday, February 25, 2009 in Virginia Baptist Hospital, Lynchburg. He was the husband of Virginia Baker Welch. He was a retired rural mail carrier and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. In addition to his wife, Mr. Welch is survived by two sons, James Paschal Welch and wife, Susan of Richmond, and George Ewart Welch and wife, Penny of Pamplin; one daughter, Virginia Ann Welch of Fork Union; one sister, Nancy Carwile of Pamplin; two brothers, Rev. Carroll B. Welch of Madison Heights and Gene W. Welch of Galax; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; two brothers-in-law; two sisters-in-law; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one brother, Clarence J. Welch. Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 1, 2009 in the chapel of Shorter Funeral Home, Farmville, with the Rev. Steve Tyree officiating. Interment will follow in Trinity Memorial Gardens, Farmville. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or a charity of your choice. Shorter Funeral Home is serving the family.

PAMPLIN HAS LOST A GOOD MAN. AND ELON BAPTIST CHURCH HAS LOST A CORNERSTONE OF ITS FOUNDATION.BUT WHAT A GREAT LEGACY HE HAS LEFT BEHIND IN HIS CHILDREN AND GRANDCHILDREN ESPECIALLY IN THAT OF DANIEL.
