John Allred Obituary

ALLRED, John Samuel, 84, of Richmond, died as he lived, with great dignity. He was a quiet, intelligent, honorable gentleman. He was born on October 19, 1924 and left this world on February 25, 2009 at Henrico Doctors' Hospital. He was the only son of the late John McMasters and Maria Butler Allred. Members of his immediate family being deceased, he is survived by his two nieces, Edna G. Trudeau and Melvina A. Gooch; several great-nieces and a great-nephew, great-great-nieces and nephews and one great-great-great-niece. He graduated from John Marshall High School in 1942 and was a member of the Cadet Corps. Before entering the service in World War II, he attended Temple University. After WWII, he served in the United States Air Force during the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He was honorably discharged in 1962 with the rank of Senior Master Sergeant. He was with the Avec Corporation as an electronic specialist from 1968 to 1972. He entered private business conducting investigations and electronic surveillance until retirement in 1986. He was honored to be a life member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans as well as many genealogical societies, historical societies and veterans groups. God welcomes you home with joy, John. The family will receive friends Monday, March 2, from 11 to 12 noon in the Woody Funeral Home-Parham Chapel, 1771 North Parham Rd. A graveside service will follow at 1 p.m. at Greenwood Memorial Gardens. Online condolences at www.mem.com.

I would like to express our condolences to John's Family from the 1st Radio Relay reunion group. John was with Company "D" of the 926 Signal Battalion 1946-1949 . Company "D" became the 1st Radio Relay Sqdn. in 1948 John's pictures from that time can be seen by going to www.1stradiorelay.com go to ALBUMS then GALLERY 4 .
