Verleine Carl Obituary

Published by Richmond Times-Dispatch on Mar. 4, 2009.
CARL, Verleine H., age 84, beloved wife of 62 years to David E. Carl; loving mother of Darlene C. Tucker (John) and David E. Carl Jr. (Jude'); and devoted grandmother to Emily Carl and Katie Carl, died early Tuesday morning, February 17, 2009, of a stroke and congestive heart failure. She worked at Richmond Newspapers Inc. for over 40 years as Manager of the Front Counter, where she greeted everyone coming and going through the lobby with a warm and sincere smile. She volunteered at River Road Methodist Church and became a member when it was originally Broad Street Methodist Church, in Richmond, before they relocated to the suburbs. She retired with her husband to Orlando, Fla. in 1990, promptly became a member of St. Luke's Methodist Church, where she volunteered her time and services five days a week until her health became an issue. In 2001, she and David moved to Derwood, Md. to be closer to, and eventually move in with, her daughter, Darlene and her husband, John, in November 2004. It was her desire to be cremated and her ashes spread in the Memorial Garden at St. Luke's Methodist Church in Orlando. Memorial services will be held later this year.
