My condolences... My sister, Bettina was friends with Bob's son, Dion from years ago. Just today, she told me Colonel Murphy's story/history. I'm a US Navy veteran from the 1980s/1990s having served aboard the USS Pyro AE-24. Pearl Harbor Survivors & WWII vets have become a rather large part of my life these last few years, whether it's sponsoring vets for Honor Flight trips, traveling with them as a guardian, or traveling to visit those who served aboard the Pyro's Pearl Harbor/WWII ship, the USS Pyro AE-1. I'm an active Chair Member of the USS Pyro Association and find it nothing but an honor being personal friends with our last living PH survivors and WWII vets. They have touched my heart, have given me the best history lessons anyone could ask for and have truly changed my life. Under certain circumstances such as this, I reach out to the families when learning of yet another hero from our Greatest Generation has passed. It may be eight years later from an insignificant person such as myself, but that tells you our hero/your loved one is still being thought of and honored today and will be for decades to come. Ironically, tomorrow is the 72nd D-Day Landing anniversary and Colonel Murphy will indeed be honored. A final salute to Colonel Robert M. Murphy and warm regards to his family, friends & brothers in arms. Fair Winds & Following Seas...

Dear Christine,

I am so very sorry to read about the loss of your father. Although I have not seen you in nearly 4 years I think of you often. We have so many special memories, and stories from Boston to Cape Breton. I will always remember your dad taking us on his boat as a little girl for a great day on Boston Harbor. He always made up a big pancake breakfast when I slept over in Westwood. He loved you and your family so very much. May God BLess you during this time of sadness. Love your friend, Tricia Muise-Ashe

To the Family of Colonel Bob Murphy:

I was saddened to hear the news of your father’s passing. My mere words can never bring you any real solace. However, please know that your father was a very good and kind man. I hope and pray this knowledge will bring you some level of comfort during this most difficult time.

In addition, your father and other veterans from the 82nd Airborne helped me to understand the effort to take the causeway at La Fière, France on June 9, 1944. My cousin, a member of the 325th G.I.R. was mortally wounded during that action. As a result, your father patiently explained the situation on the ground and the successful efforts of the 82nd to take the causeway.

Also, when my wife and I visited my cousin's grave at the American Cemetery in Normandy last August, your father was there the same day. We spoke about that coincidence a couple of times. He was always patient and enthusiastic when we spoke.

Please know that I will always hold him in high esteem.

With my deepest sympathy,

While recently on vacation in Normandy, we had the honor of attending a mass celebrating the life of Robert "Bob" Murphy at the church in Ste Mere Eglise. The turn out of young and old alike, in the hundreds, was moving and certainly spoke volumes of how a libertated and free France still held this American hero as truly a great man and friend of France. The many tributes made during the memorial service by a still grateful people 64 years later and the playing of the US National Anthem put lumps in our throats. Our condolences go to the Murphy family and friends.

As a long-standing member of the Groesbeek Airborne Friends, I have known Bob Murphy for many years. It is hard to imagine that he will no longer be among the veterans visiting my home town, which owes him and his fellow warriors so much. His sheer presence enlivened every get together.
Bob, it was a pleasure and a privilege knowing you.

Joe, Juliane, Amalia, and Bob Murphy's family,

My sympathies on Bob's passing. You are in my thoughts and prayers. I was blessed to have the honor of meeting Bob last June as I was returning from Normandy. I was waiting at CDG for my flight to Boston when I recognized him sitting in the waiting area. I went over and introduced myself and we had a delightful conversation. He was gracious to give me his address so I could have him sign my copy of No Better Place to Die which he kindly did. I regret that I have lived in Boston and practiced law for over 30 years and never met Bob until recently. I am so thankful that I had the honor and pleasure of meeting him before his passing. A true warrior and gentleman in every sense of the word. Geronimo, Bob. May you rest in peace.

Dear family members of Robert Maurice Murphy..
A very dear one …for you most – for us – also very dear.
Only when we prolonged a meeting too long (after his long flight he became sleepy) as after too many “Hail Mary’s”.
Bob, co-founder of our National Liberation Museum, a liberator in fact – for several places in Europe – a warm friend… A man who kept our hectic history alive.
We will make a special Intention for Bob in Holy Mass.

My father, Adam Parsons, and Bob had a wonderful association for many decades through their mutual military service during WWII. Dad, who passed away almost 2 years ago, was the co-pilot of the Argonia, along with his pilot Charlie Young, during the Normandy invasion. As I recall, Bob was the paratrooper that landed in the pea patch that was depicted in the film The Greatest Day. I have many special memories of Bob during my father's reunions with the 94th Troop Carrier Squadron, stateside and in Europe.

My condolences go out to the entire Murphy and extended families. Bob was a wonderful man and great patriot.
