In My Pocket
I have memories in my pocket.
They rattle among the change.
My memories of you are treasures I carry wherever I go.
They are stored in bits and pieces, parts of a beautiful whole
They give me comfort when I think I am alone.
Yes, I have memories in my pocket, like so much other stuff I keep there.
But of all the treasures I have, it’s the memories of you that are the most precious.

I had been friends with AJ in college. He was always a very warm person and always made me laugh. I just found out now in Febuary when I opened up the Stonehill Alumni Magazine about his passing.I was very saddened by this news. I wish you, his wife Beth, all the strength in the world and hope that the amazing memories you had together will be the "hope" for a bright future. I am sure AJ would want that for you....if I remember AJ correctly...My thoughts and prayers are with you. Lisa B-

To The Kirwan Family:
I hadn't see AJ in many years, but he is someone who I will always remember. We knew each other through his sister, Susan, my sister-in-law. What I remember most about AJ was his smile and his generous giving heart. May God bless him and his family.

As I read each person's thoughts and feelings about AJ, I picture him with that big smile. His smile was the biggest when he spoke about you Beth. All of us who knew and loved AJ know we were touched by someone very special. Thank you for sharing AJ with us--we will miss him...

A.J. was a close friend of mine during college. He was like another brother to me, teasing me one moment and giving great advice in another. I truly wish we had stayed in touch after graduation. A.J. is one of my fond memories from college, a person who truly made the world a better place by his presence in it. My sympathy is with his wife and other family during this difficult time. Blessings, Suzanne

Dear Beth,
I'll remember forever how your face lit the room whenever you spoke of AJ...and for good reason. He was a sweet, kind, wonderful man, and you two were so in love. How lucky you were to have found each other, I often thought. Your light has dimmed at your loss, but the wonderful thoughts, feelings, and memories will occasionally, then more and more often, become the strength you need to push the cloudiness away and bring the light back to your face as you remember your beloved AJ and the beautiful life you've had together. Nothing prepares us for so great a loss, and nothing but strength, friendship, and love can help us to recover. You, my dear friend, have all of those, and you must lean on them heavily, let them carry you through to the day when you notice the pain is a little lighter, and through the next day and the next. My heart and prayers are with you. I love you, my friend.

AJ...There are so many wonderful things to say about him. He was always there for anyone, whether good or bad. I remember going to church to pay respects to the 911 victims. I remember his great smile. I also remember how truely happy he was when he told me he met Beth. Then the biggest smile of all when he said they were getting married. He will be sadly missed, but always remembered.

A.J., you were one of a kind. You'll be sorely missed by so many. I'll always remember Winston Churchill's quote that describes you so well - "We make living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give". God Bless. Love, Tina

I wish to express my deep condolences to Beth and AJ's family.
AJ was a happy, sweet, gentle person who's smile was captivating.
His laugh was infectious.
I enjoyed our chats in the hallways at BCBSMA.
I loved to chat with AJ about his home improvement projects. His enthusiasm to remodel a bathroom or build a deck was inspirational.
We all love AJ.
May his new journey in life be as fullfilling and rewarding as he experienced here.
God Bless.

To the Kirwan Family,
"AJ" was a dear friend of our family. AJ used to work with my Mom at Blue Cross/Blue Shield in Quincy and in Rockland. My Mom was diagnosed with breast cancer in October of 1994 and AJ visited her each night for the month she was in the hospital and then rehab. When he got sick in 1995, she worried so much about her dear friend. They would spend hours on the phone encouraging each other. When she passed away in 1998, he was devastated. He was also close to our Dad who passed away in February, 2007. They used to go to watch Mansfield High School football games.
We are all deeply saddened by the passing of AJ. We will forever remember him as a loving and caring friend.
With Deepest Sympathy,
