JAY ROMRELL Obituary

Jay Lloy Romrell 6/24/1932 ~ 4/20/2011 Our beloved father, husband, grandpa, brother, uncle and friend passed away peacefully at home on April 20, 2011. Born in Wilford, Idaho June 24, 1932 to proud parents Rulon Ruben Romrell and Myrtle Jane Harder Romrell. His father taught him early in life to work hard and be honest in all dealings. It was a work ethic he practiced all the rest of his days. He will forever be remembered with fondness by all those children who attended David Gourley and Alpine elementary schools where he worked. As a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, he served an honorable mission in Canada, and many other church callings throughout his life. Dad was one of a kind. He was a man of integrity, strength, hard work, joy, compassion, wisdom, honesty, charity, dependability, laughter and faith. He was admired and loved by all those who knew him. He was a simple man and derived great joy and happiness through his family and service. He knew and believed the greatest treasure a man could have is an eternal family. Dad, you will surely be missed. Hugs and kisses till we meet again. Proceeded in death by Parents, daughter Trina Hancock, son Wade Verde, Brothers Dean and Burton Romrell and Sister Marie Bateman. Survived by his loving wife Elynor Peatross Verde Romrell, Sons Lloy Romrell, Scott Verde, Troy Verde, Brandon Verde, Daughters Angie Whytock, J'Nette Bonner, Lorie Felix, Coleen Hayes, 33 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren and brother Paul Romrell, and sister Anna Jane Hafen. Funeral services will be held Monday, April 25, 2011 at 11:00 am in the Highland 31st Ward, 11190 North, Alpine Hwy, Highland UT. A viewing will be held Sunday, April 24th from 6:00 8:00 pm at Anderson and Sons Mortuary, 49 East 100 North, American Fork and also from 9:30 to 10:45 am at church prior to services. He is always remembered and thought of frequently. His good influence and influence for good continues and is always cherished. His example and treatment of other people was always exemplary and what a delightful sense of humor. He was also very intelligent. His wisdom and intellect surpassed all those who were managers over him. Yet he also remained a very humble man. Truly, a very wonderful person and remarkable man. He went about doing good to all people.

Jay was my boss about 40 yrs ago when I was a young teenager. Over the passing years I have very often reflected upon the blessing he has been in my life and I cherish his friendship and influence. Jay's sense of integrity and excellect work ethic always went hand in hand with the kindness he extended toward all people. Jay's life was always a testiment of his humility and his love of God. He also had a wonderful sense of humor. A great man to have as a friend and a teacher.

We all loved Jay at Alpine Elementary. I taught there for 9 years and for most of them, Jay was working there. I enjoyed so much just visiting with him and sharing a joke or two. He was a calm person yet very energizing to be around because he brought out the best in us all. My last memory of Jay was of him in the Temple all dressed in white conducting our endowment session and smiling. He was right where he belonged...encouraging all of us to do our best.

I grew up next door to the Romrell's and spent A LOT of time at their home. Collen used to babysit us. We loved playing in their big backyard and in the barn. Otter Pops in the garage:) Cookies in the Kitchen with Elynor:) Basketball with Troy & Brandon:) ALL good memories!!

One can only remember good things about Jay because he only did good things. Fishing trips were among the highlights in my memory. He and Brandon and my sons enjoyed great times with Jay. He will truly be missed and Elynor I suppose he and Ron are enjoying great fishing stories by now. Do know how well I understand your sorrow. May God Bless. Love Erlene Taylor

I occupied Room 10 at David Gourley Elementary which was right next door to Jay's office. Consequently we saw a lot of each other over the years. I remember how kind, thoughtful and helpful Jay was to me and how much the children enjoyed him.

I had the true blessing of knowing Mr. Romrell as a student at Alpine Elem. then again years later as a teacher there. All of the words used to describe him, that "He was a man of integrity, strength, hard work, joy, compassion, wisdom, honesty, charity, dependability, laughter and faith. He was admired and loved by all those who knew him," ring absolutely true. What a wonderful man and example to many. I'm so sorry for your loss.
