Charles Richman Obituary

Charles George Richman, 94, of Hilton Head passed away Friday, February 10 in Valparaiso, Indiana. He was born May 19, 1917, in Cincinnati, Ohio to Ralph & Grace (Schulenberg) Richman, graduated from Walnut Hills High School, attended Valparaiso University and received his B.S. from Trinity College, Connecticut before serving with the U.S. Army Air Corps in England during WWII. Charlie had worked in the textile industry, retiring as a vice-president of sales for Avondale Mills. On November 10, 1946 he married Florence Ehrsam who preceded him in death after 60 years of marriage in 2007. Survivors include their daughters: Dorothy (Walter) Daiber & Carol (Edward) Ebner both of Valparaiso, Indiana, sister, Dorothy Stiegemeyer of Michigan, grandchildren, Anna (Stephen) Brown, Michael (Allison) Daiber, Matthew (May) Daiber, Adam Ebner & Zachary Ebner and great grandchildren: Tusa, Acesa, Miles, Archie & Wesley. In 1983, Charlie and Florence retired to Hilton Head from River Edge, New Jersey. Charlie was a founding member of All Saints Episcopal Church where he was a member of the choir. He was a charter member of Dolphin Head Golf Club, winning numerous tournaments with the "Turkeys" over the years. He was a longstanding member of the Hilton Head Choral Society and Sons of the American Revolution. As avid travellers, Charlie and Florence visited all 50 US states, most European countries and several other exotic locations. Charlie enjoyed card games and crossword puzzles. He embraced new technologies and was a prolific user of the internet. He was a fixture of Hilton Head Island life- driving around in his beloved convertible, walking his dog and riding his bicycle, "hunting" for golf balls. His positive approach to life, staying active well into his 90's, serves as an inspiration to all who knew him. A memorial service and committal of ashes will take place at All Saints Episcopal Church later in the summer. Memorials may be directed to All Saints Episcopal Church and the Hilton Head Choral Society.

To Dorothy and Carol,
Your Sweet dad is greatly missed at All Saints, in the Choral Society, his neighborhood and the many organizations in which he was a member. I belong to All Saints and sing in the choir as well as the Choral Society so I have had several years to adore and respect this remarkable man. I am all the richer for the experience. I look forward to seeing you later in the summer when we can remember the many wonderful times we shared with Charlie.
