Gordon Waugh Obituary

VERNON - Gordon F. Waugh, 74, of Churton Road passed away peacefully early Saturday morning Feb. 25, 2012 surrounded by his loving family.
He was born on Oct. 7, 1937 in Gouverneur, N.Y. a son of the late Cyril and Shirley (Griffis) Waugh.
Gordy proudly served his country with the United States Army from 1962-1964 and spent two years as a reservist and was honorably discharged in 1968. On Nov. 9, 1963, Gordon and Priscilla A. Durant were united in marriage in St. Catherine's Church of Vernon and shared that union until Priscilla's death on Oct. 5, 2007. Gordon was a member of Holy Family Church of Vernon.
He spent his entire life actively involved in harness racing as a driver, trainer, and owner and won over 1,000 races by 1982. He also spent the last 20 years as a presiding harness racing judge both in the New York and Vermont Harness Racing Fair Circuit.
Gordon enjoyed going on picnics, Sunday drives, watching movies and eating popcorn with his granddaughter Gabrielle. Gordon was an avid Buffalo Bills fan and loved spending time with all his brothers and sisters, especially, going to St. Lawrence University hockey games with his brother Hank and his family. Gordon loved life and he lived by his favorite sayings, "it's better to do something even if it's wrong than to do nothing at all" and "no matter what you can never get lost because every road goes somewhere."
He is survived by his two loving daughters, Cheri-Lee Waugh Ellert and her husband Anthony of Vernon; Christy-Lee Wandover and her companion, Richard Dominguez of Boston; his grandchildren Gabrielle and Jordan, Richard and Deanna Dominguez; his brothers, Hank, Fred and Elon Waugh; two sisters, Jane and Linda Zehr; several nieces and nephews with special mention of Kathy, Tom, Jim and Scott.
Dad, Grandpa and brother and cousin, we love you and will miss you for you are our sunshine.
For Gabby, Grandpa loves you with hoops and hollers and a million dollars.
Family and friends are invited to call on Tuesday from 4 -7 p.m. at the Malecki Funeral Home Inc., 23 Front St., Vernon. I have had the pleasure of working with Gordie in both NY and Vt racing.
He will be missed for his calm workman ethic he brought to officiating the races when personalities can be bigger than the race purses. Rest well friend.

I am going to miss Gordie's visits to my house and the stories he always told me about living here once upon a time. Lunch at the Castlewood with him every month, and of course the sarcasm that he spoke with just about everything I said! :) I am going to miss him so much and I will always always love him. My love to Cheri and Chrissy and Gabby...your all always in my heart!
