He was born March 26, 1936, in Reading, Pa., a son of Daniel V. Groff Sr. and Rosa (Doll) Groff.
In 1954, he enlisted in the U.S. National Guard/Air Force in which he received his training in Electronics in three years with an Honorable discharge. After leaving the military he spent the rest of his career as a master electrician before retiring. His interests were electronics, teaching, painting, arts, and travel.
Daniel (Dan) is survived by his children: Wanda Joffred, wife of Douglass Joffred Sr., Robin Scalese, wife of John Scalese Jr., Daniel V. Groff III, Sherwood Groff, and Troy Groff, husband of Laura Groff; nine grandchildren, Douglass Joffred Jr., Melissa Joffred, Heather Stricker, wife of Ryan Stricker, Daniel V. Groff IV, Jessica Cammar-ano, Nicolas Groff, Sabrina Groff, David Montanez and Estefania Montanez; two great-grandchildren, Colby and Mason Stricker; and by the following sisters: Rosa Steffy, Shirley Meyers, Patricia Zimmerman, and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents, brother, Richard Groff, and grandson, Joseph Groff.
Funeral services will be held Whelan Schwartz Funeral Home, 444 N. 9th Street, Reading, on Friday, Nov. 25, 2011 at 10 a.m. Interment in Forest Hills Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Friday 9 to 10 a.m.

To Sherwood, Troy, Danny, Wanda, Robin & the entire Groff family, I am so sorry to hear of your loss. I know how difficult it is to lose someone so close but take comfort in knowing that my thoughts and the thoughts of many are with you in this time of sorrow.
