Julia A. "Judy" Halpin

Julia "Judy" A. Halpin March 9, 2011 Julia "Judy" A. Halpin, 75, of Syracuse, passed away Wednesday, March 9, 2011 in the loving care of Van Duyn Home and Hospital. Judy was a compassionate wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She was devoted to her faith in God and was a parishioner of St. Ann's Church in Syracuse. Judy graduated from Nurses Training at Syracuse General Hospital in 1957 and with her peers began a lifetime of friendships. Throughout her extensive nursing career she worked in several area hospitals as an operating room nurse. She was instrumental in founding Syracuse's first one-day surgery center at Crouse Irving Memorial Hospital. Judy taught a variety of nursing courses, including 15 years as the director and head instructor of the surgical technician program at Onondaga Community College. She is survived by her loving husband, Jack; her son, John (Anne) of Syracuse; two stepdaughters, Maureen McCaul (Brian) and their children, Michael, Brandy Ariel, and Kelly of Navarra, FL and Linda Pettit (Ken) and their children, Justin and Benjamin of Oak Hill, WV. She is also survived by her sister, Mary Cummings of Las Vegas, NV; brother, Neil Killoran (Shirley) of Syracuse; sister, Anne Aljets of Liverpool; brother, Lawrence Killoran (Mary) of Colorado Springs, CO; sister, Ellen Patchett (Gene) of Liverpool; brother, Michael Killoran of Syracuse; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Judy will be dearly missed by her friends and family. The Halpin family would like to thank the staff of the 3rd floor (3D) and the BCU at Van Duyn for all of their care and love that they gave to Judy. Services will be held Monday at 9:30 a.m. at St. Ann's Church with burial to follow at Onondaga County Veterans Cemetery. Calling hours will be Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Edward J. Ryan & Son Funeral Home, 3180 Bellevue Ave. Donations can be made to the Kirkpatrick Day Program, 441 west Kirkpatrick St., Syracuse, NY 13204.
