Gregg Allman Obituary

Gregg Allman
The life of Gregg Allman will be celebrated this weekend in the city that is synonymous with The Allman Brothers Band.

Allman, who died May 27 at the age of 69 from complications due to liver cancer, will be buried on Saturday, June 3 alongside his brother Duane and fellow band member Berry Oakley at Rose Hill Cemetery in Macon, Ga.

Prior to the burial, a private 1 p.m. service will be held at Snow's Memorial Chapel.

Fans, however, are welcome to line the procession route from Snow's – which also handled Duane Allman's funeral arrangements in 1971 – to the cemetery.

Bill Snow, owner of the funeral home, said that Cherry Street, in front of the building, will be closed, but those who wish to pay their respects can line the street beginning at the corners of Cherry and First streets. The procession will run from First Street to Riverside Drive.

""We just ask that everybody respect the family's privacy and give (Gregg) a great sendoff,"" Snow said on Tuesday.

You no longer have to miss your Brother...Duane!!! Now the two of you are side by side. Born in Nashville, 10 at Baptist Hospital. "Excellence is to do a common thing in an uncommon way" (Booker T. I´m reading Gregg´s book. My son loaned it to me to read over Christmas Break - I´m a teacher. He loves listening to and playing Allman Bros songs on his guitar. So sad to lose such a talented man this past year. I think he was misunderstood by many. I appreciate his talents, love of music, and love for others. So glad I passed my appreciation onto the next generation of music lovers. My son is sharing with his son now. Blessings on Gregg´s family & fans.

I remember seeing him at the Royal Oak theater in Michigan, early 80's front row sets. The icon of music that soothed my soul. His grace adorned the piano, the angelic notes by the touch of his hands. I wasn't star struck, I was just amazed how beautiful he sang, played and never missed a tune. A great memory I'll never forget. I miss him.

There's so much to say about Gregg Allman the best thing I can think to say is thank you Greg thank you so very much love you brother love you brother I went to work at 16 for printing company and my first day not knowing anything or anyone I walk into the print room and two guys are arguing over which 8track tape to play did you get that 8track tape to play. Both with long hair so they turn to me and said we'll let the kid decide one tape was rolling stones exile on main street and the other the Allman Brothers fillmore east. Not knowing who the two guys were I naturally said that's easy why the Allman Brothers of course. Well they were my bosses and the main man over the press room was for the Allman Brothers and number 2 man was for the stones. Not only is it a great 8 track but it got me in good with the big boss first day. Thanks To the whole band . God I miss the music the man the band. You wrote the sound track to My life.

I can't even begin to put into words how much Gregg's music has meant to me. He was such a genuine, normal, sweet guy with an incredible musical gift. He was a huge talent, but yet so humble. I am so grateful for the fact that this world will always have his music. He is so greatly missed.

I met Gregg the first time in Knoxville TN. He was preforming at a little bar called Belle Star. Gregg Allman was absolutely the best vocalist with a style that will never be reproduced. This was around 1979. I continually followed his music and went to very many of his shows. Once you heard him sing you would never forget that energy and tallent. He was one of a kind. A true friend and brother. The last time I got to see and talk with him was at Brassys on Cocoa Beach. He will be missed by all means. As his music. R.I.P Gregg. Barrett

At your "Revival" with Duane and Berry above the clear "Blue Skies", you won't be "Wasting Time No More" getting free of that "Whipping Post" because it just "Ain't Your Cross to Bear" and will be "Trouble No More"! There's only "One Way Out" of these "Come & Go Blues" for your fans. That is to listen to your "Soulshine" every time we take a ride with the "Midnight Rider" on the radio. Well Gregg, you ARE an Angel, now!! Thanks for the tunes! ❤

I COULD GO BACK TO "A WAREHOUSE 1971"...BUT THE MOST MEMORABLE WOULD BE THE "NO ANGELS TOUR 87" THE SHOW I PRODUCED @ BIG KAHAUNA AMPHITHEATER IN DESTIN, FLA. AND CONVINCING HIM TO DO AN IN-STORE, AT THE RECORD BAR, WHICH HAD BEEN PREAPPROVED BY MGMT. BUT NOT BY GREGG? IT ONLY TOOK 30MINS., OF ONE ON ONE IN A MOTORHOME...AND A REMINDER OF A FAVOR AT AN ABB SHOW I PRODUCED IN LOUISIANNA 82, FOR HIM TO SAY, WAS THAT YOU? OK! ONLY IF YOU GO WITH US??(he never raised his voice above low speakin & never got mad?)

I grew up with the music of the Allman Brothers and even got to see them live in Charlotte in the early 70s. What a day to remember! I was drunk from the music and the experience. So sad about Greggs early death. Next to Neil Young, Gregg has been my absolute hero ever since. He is terribly missed. Rest in Peace, you gentle
man.

Gregg was one of a kind .Such a soulful soul and gentle as well. He went through a lot of different emotions in his life and survived the meaning of losing loved ones to death , especially those of being unexpected. He held on through it all. He was a handsome tough man that women couldn't stop looking at . He married several times and most of loved them all . It appears as if his children are carrying on his legacy of being musicians as he was all of his life . So sorry for all your losses Gregg. I never was honored to meet you in person wished I would of . Your memory and many talents and your music. and through your children will be carried on for many years to come after we are dead and gone of this generation . I would like to say My Deepest Heartfelt Condolences to the entire ALLMAN FAMILY HIS CHILDREN AND HIS LATEST WIFE SHANNON May God wrap his loving arms around you all LOVE & PEACE GREGG You were one of the very best ! I still remember sitting in my moms old station wagon listening to Midnight Rider on the radio. I was only 10 or 11. Loved the soultry sound of his voice. Seems like only yesterday. I once got to meet Greg in person when he was jamming in this little bar in Largo FL in the 80's. He was just a guy in there that night and I was truly in awe. Will always be a fan for eternity. I have seen Gregg play many times. Most recent was at the Crest Theater in Sacramento. I also saw him at Cal exp in Sacramento and it was 100 degrees.. I also saw him at Wolf Trap in Virginia in the 70es.. He always was great and really poured his whole heart into the music.. I am sorry he is gone but glad I saw him at the Crest recently. I love his solo work. Laid back was one of the best records ever made..

Thinking of all of Gregg's families as a new year begins. I can only imagine your feelings after 6 mths has passed. Doesn't seem like half a year to me. Shannon, Chank, & the family he loved so dear.... my wish for you is that as the days of this new year each pass by that you may share memories that will make each of you smile. I know, I am alone, grieving is a helluva process. Just keep thinking about the things that make you smile...not cry. Happy New Year to each of you. Peace & love, Popcorn
