SAM KEPHART Obituary

SAMUEL KEPHART Samuel Henry Kephart, 87, of Las Vegas, and formerly of Niagara Falls, N.Y., passed away Nov. 14, 2013. He was born March 11, 1926, in Osceola Mills, Pa., and was a 25-year resident of Las Vegas. He served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II. After his discharge from the Navy, he worked in multiple coal mines in Pennsylvania. He moved to Niagara Falls, N.Y. after marrying Gloria Folmar. He was an employee at Airco Sphere Anoids and Electroids, while also serving as OCAW's union president for many years. Sam was an active father who coached many of his son's little league baseball teams to championships. After raising his family and losing his son, Sammy, he and Gloria retired to Las Vegas in the late 1980's. Some of Sam's favorite pastimes were bowling, playing poker, cheering on his favorite football team, The Pittsburth Steelers, and spending time with his family. He had a deep love for classic cars and his country. After his wife, Gloria, passed away, he received a second chance at love with Frances Hamilton. With Fran, he found a new passion for traveling and they enjoyed excursions to Hawaii and Laughlin. Sam is survived by his wife, Frances Kephart; children, John Kephart, Sharon (James) Morganti, Joseph Kephart adn Steven Kephard; two brothers, Denver (Rose) Kephart and Norman Kephart; five stepchildren; 10 grandchildren; six stepgrandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 17. Services will be at 9 a.m. Monday, Nov. 18, both at Davis Funeral Home, 6200 S. Eastern Ave. Burial will follow at Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Park, 1900 Veterans Memorial Drive. A reception will follow at Giuseppe's, 2630 W. Horzon Ridge Parkway. Donations may be made to Nathan Adelson Hospice, 4141 S. Swenson St.
