Phyllis Schneck Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 10, 2011.
When Phyllis Schneck and her husband retired, they spent their winters in Tucson and summers in their native Rutherford, N.J. "They didn't want to ever have to deal with the snow again," said Schneck's daughter, B.J. Offutt of Colorado Springs, Colo.

Schneck, who continued to return to Tucson in the winters even after her husband died in 2007, was a homemaker who raised her two daughters and one son and had a talent for cooking. In retirement, Schneck kept herself occupied by volunteering at her church.

Phyllis Schneck died January 8, 2011, in the shootings outside a Tucson supermarket. Her home was less than four miles from where the shooting took place. Offutt said her mother's appearance at the store was surprising, because she normally shopped at a different store and wasn't very political.

Schneck is survived by her three children, seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Phyllis I am womdering if you were the Phyllia canasta that wrote to me on the internet? I enjoyed your conversations about Richard Henry Lee who we both felt were our ancestor. Now that you are on the other side how about filling me in on the Lee family tree, where we left off when my dear husband found out he had cancer. He is up there now as well. Probably won't be long before I will be joining you all. So hang in there. [email protected]

I wish to extend my sincere sympathy. Phyllis was a class mate of mine class 1949. We kept in touch afterward and had a canasta club - Phyllis, Dot, Margie Lentz and myself. I was devastated to hear the news from Tucson. Please accept my sincere sympathy, Faith (Housten) Delevante.

My sisters and brother were very upset to hear of Phyllis's passing. Phyllis was very kind to me when I met her at one of the class of 1949 reunion. She even sent me a letter with a clipping about my father Bob Harding. I do hope that your happy memories will give you comfort during this very difficult time. Sincerely, Elizabeth Harding Jones, William C Harding, Victoria H Buchanan and Virginia H Pifko.

I had the pleasure of knowing Phyllis and was honored to be given an apron with kitties on it. She gave and received freely. She will be missed by many, both here in Tucson and in New Jersy. Her work will contine ....somewhere, somehow. This cannot be the end to her generous spirit.

I am deeply saddened by the loss of a dear friend. For many years I have shared tears and joy with Phyliss. She was always a person I admired for her honesty and loyalty. Her devotion to caring for others will be truly missed amongst her family and friends. I have been blessed to of shared the years I have with Phyliss and they will be forever treasured in my heart. Her friday appointments at my salon will forever remain hers..and my heart will forever have a void. I will truly miss her vibrant personality that made my day. But I know she will always be there in spirit to get me through. Thank you Phyliss for being so good to my family, my business and ME ! You will always be my MISSION IMPOSSIBLE..and one day we laugh about that again..we will ! I am so thankful to of met the family and friends of Phyliss at her memorial. It was so nice to see how many others took her into their hearts as I did. God bless

May God bless you, and keep you close to him forever, and ever.

And, may God also dearly bless all of those loving members of your family that you suddenly (and so regretfully) had to leave behind.

Hearing your life's wonderful story has touched so many of us deeply.

Yes indeed, your life's story of graciously giving to others has positively effected many ordinary people such as myself.

And, after hearing how much you gave of yourself while you were here on Earth, all I will say is, may we all strive to be more like you.

Rest well Dear Lady, until our God reunites us all in love one day.
