WANDA J. HORAK (MICHALSKI) VALPARAISO/HAMMOND/GARY, IN
Wanda J. Horak (Michalski) passed away November 20, 2007 at age 89 at Whispering Pines, Valparaiso, IN. Wanda was born in Hammond, IN on February 10, 1918 to the late John and Valarie (Krysinski) Maka. She graduated from Hammond High School. Wanda married Edward J. Michalski on July 4, 1939 and together they operated a grocery store in Gary for many years. They moved to Valparaiso in 1974. Wanda taught music for a number of years at St. Paul School. Wanda was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church and choir in Valparaiso. She was a former member of St. Mary Church and choir in Hammond and St. Mary of the Lake Church and choir in Miller. She was also a member of the Polish National Alliance in Chicago and an amateur radio operator, N9FPU. Wanda loved her family and performing music. She was very proud of her Polish heritage. Wanda is survived by one son, Donald (Ann) Michalski of Madison, WI; two grandsons: Frank (Sarah) Spanopoulos of Corydon, IN and Edward (Amy) Spanopoulos of Valparaiso, IN; one granddaughter, Lisa (Mark) Danielson of Minneapolis, MN; one sister, Valarie (John) Kondra of Hammond, IN; one brother, Thaddeus (Patricia) Maka of Schererville, IN; one son-in-law, James (Helen) Spanopoulos of Valparaiso, IN; four great-grandchildren: James, Morgan and Madison Spanopoulos, and Mathias Danielson. She was preceded in death by her husbands: Edward J. Michalski and Harry Horak; daughter, Donna Spanopoulos; and sister, Chestine Golarz. Funeral services will be held Monday, November 26, 2007 at 10:30 a.m. from the Dykes Funeral Home for an 11:00 a.m. Mass at St. Paul Catholic Church, 1855 Harrison Blvd., Valparaiso, IN. Rev. Joseph Pawlowski, Presider and Msgr. F.J. Melevage, Con-Celebrant. Interment at St. Paul Cemetery. Friends may call on Sunday, November 25, 2007 from 4:00-7:00 p.m. with a 4:00 p.m. wake service at the Dykes Funeral Home, 2305 N. Campbell Street, Valparaiso, IN.
