Barbara Jean Hanicq

Barbara Jean Hanicq, age 75, of Crown Point, Indiana, passed away peacefully on March 24, 2026. She was born on December 26, 1950 in East Chicago, Indiana to Eli and Elsie Popovich, who preceded her in death.

Barbara is survived by her loving husband of 51 years: Gerald Hanicq; daughter Jacqueline Moellering; son Jeffrey Hanicq; the light of her life, grandson Tyler Moellering; sister and faithful companion Terri (Rick) Kelley; brothers Tom (Cindy) Popovich and Mark (Danielle) Popovich; brother-in-law Peter (Melanie) Hanicq and several nieces and nephews.

Barbara graduated from Highland High School and worked as a data entry operator early in her career before becoming a full-time mother, dedicating her life to the care of her family. She married the love of her life Gerald in 1974, and together they built a family that was their proudest accomplishment. Her most important role of Mother is one she cherished deeply as well as the pure happiness and fulfillment of being a grandmother. Together they shared many moments of laughter and joy, creating memories that will be treasured forever.

Barbara was creative at heart, and was talented at many types of crafts, most notably papercrafts. She had a gift for creating intricate and memorable cards that her family looked forward to every year. She made each occasion special with a personal touch only she could provide to share her caring spirit with those she loved. These cards will now serve as memories of the love and devotion she had to her family for many years to come.

Friends may visit with the family on Monday, March 30, 2026 at Geisen Funeral, Cremation & Reception Centre, 606 E. 113th Ave., Crown Point, IN 46307 from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm.

Funeral Services will be on Tuesday, March 31, 2026 at 10:00 am at the Funeral Home.

Barbara will be laid to rest at Calumet Park Cemetery in Merrillville, IN.
