Robert Long Obituary

Robert H. Long June 18, 1923 May 9, 2015 Robert H. Long, 91 of Howard, died, Saturday, May 9, 2015, at Centre Crest, Bellefonte. Bob was born June 18, 1923, in Howard and was the son of the late Bernard George (B.G.) and Mary L. Hinton Long. He was a 1941 graduate of Howard High School. He entered the Army Air Corp in January 1943, and spent twenty months in the Eighth Air Force in England. After being discharged from the service, he attended Williamsport Technical Institute as part of his Tool and Die Maker Apprentice Training program for Titan Metal Manufacturing Co. of Bellefonte. Upon completion of the apprentice training, he was transferred to the Tool Design Section of the Engineering Department from which he retired after forty-two years of service. On May 10, 1947, in Bellefonte, he married the former Betty Sara Bryan who preceded him in death. Bob was a member of Saint John's United Methodist Church in Howard for over 70 years. He was a member and secretary of the Howard Borough School Board, a member of the Bald Eagle Area Joint School Board, a member and treasurer of the Bald Eagle Area School Board, a member of the Centre County Board of Education and a member of the Intermediate Unit #Ten Board for sixteen years He was also a member and treasurer of the Howard Cemetery Association. Bob enjoyed gardening and hunting and was a member of the Snow White Hunting Club. Bob is survived by three sons, Robert A. Long and his wife, Deanna, Thomas M. Long and, wife Patti Jo and Jeffrey B. Long, all of Howard. Also surviving are five grandchildren, Robert P. Long, David T. Long, Jonathan T. Long, Erin E. Long and David A. Long, all of Howard. Also surviving are six great grandchildren. Bob is also survived by one sister, Sarah J. Bittner, of Howard. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Marjorie M. Long, Alice Maxine Wagner and Dorothy Shanck; and five brothers, Ralph W., Cameron R., George B., Samuel M. and David E. Long. Services are private and burial will be at the convenience of the family, with Rev. Craig Rose officiating. Burial will be in Schencks Cemetery, Howard Township, Centre County. Memorial contributions may be made to Howard Fire Company QRS Equipment Fund, P.O. Box 276, Howard, PA 16841. Funeral Arrangements are under the direction of The Dean K. Jeff and Family,
So sorry to hear of Bob's passing. He was a great man that I had the privilege of working with at Cerro for a long time. May you find peace and comfort in the days ahead.
