Delmer Bates Obituary
He was born on November 15, 1934 in Joplin, Arkansas, the son of Homer Bates and Eva Rae Smith Bates. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Gary Bates.
He was Assembly of God in his faith. He was a United States Navy veteran and served during the Korean conflict and was a disabled veteran. He was the owner of Woodland Realty and Bates Construction and several dress stores in Benton.
He is survived by his special friend, Cindy Davis of Hot Springs and her children, Summer and Michael Austin of Hot Springs and Wendy and Paul Baxley of Seattle, Washington; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Donnie Bates and Randy and Alma Bates all of Hot Springs; one daughter, Julie Bates Gamerdinger of Hot Springs; nine grandchildren, Christopher Hammond, Bridgett and Paul Cunningham, Cory Allen Bates, Gerald and Kim Gamerdinger, III, Holly and Brandon Tollett, Ezekiel John Bates, Kristy Bates, Cpl. Jeremy Bates and Danny and Kristela Harness; eleven great-grandchildren; two brothers and sisters-in-law, M. J. and Trish Bates and Jimmy and Betty Bates all of Hot Springs; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Jane Gilliam of Hot Springs and Linda Rae and Wally Wallace of Atlanta, Georgia; nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
Services will be held at 1:00 PM, Tuesday, November 9, 2010 in the Davis-Smith Funeral Home Chapel, Hot Springs with Rev. Roger Harper officiating.
Visitation will be held from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM Monday evening at the funeral home.
Interment will be in the Blish Cemetery in Mt. Ida under the direction of Davis-Smith Funeral Home, Hot Springs.
Pallbearers will be Christopher Hammond, Cory Allen Bates, Jerry Gamerdinger, III, Ezekiel John Bates, Brandon Tollett and Tylor Hammond.

Delmer was one of the first people we met when we moved to Hot Springs in the early 1990's and became good friends for many years. We are saddened to learn of his passing and send our deepest sympathy to Cindy and both of their families. Unfortunately we were unable to attend any of his services but will always remember Delmer as a kind, gentle, caring and loving friend. We were saddened to learn of Delmer's passing and will be unable to attend the visitation or services on Tuesday. Our deepest sympathy to Julie and the entire family he left behind.

Delmer was ALWAYS in Real Estate--a real gentlemen of the"old school", he loved to talk to people, loved to promote Hot Springs, and loved his family. Our heartfelt condolences on his passing.
