H. Barnhouse Obituary


H. W. (BILL) BARNHOUSE H. W. (Bill) Barnhouse, 85, died April 29, 2014 from
complications of lymphoma at VNA Hospice in Vero Beach. He was born September 12, 1928 in Newton, Iowa to Herbert and Minnie Barnhouse. Bill fell in love with airplanes in grade school and never lost that love. He soloed at 16, and began working as a flight instructor and crop duster at 18. He attended the University of Iowa until called to service in the U. S. Army. After discharge he entered Texas A & M, graduating with honors in Aeronautical Engineering. In 1958 he moved to Vero Beach to join the Piper Development Center where he worked until he left in 1962 to work for Snow Aeronautics in Texas. In 1966 Piper called him back to Vero Beach to be director of experimental flight test and he continued his work for Piper until opening his own office as a general aviation consultant. Bill was a member of Tau Beta Pi, The Society of Experimental Test Pilots, AOPA, EAA, and the Anciente and Secret Order of Quiet Birdmen. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Patricia. He is survived by Nancy, his wife of 59 years, his son, Stephen, and his daughter, Rebecca. Friends are invited to join the family for a celebration of Bill's life on Thursday, June 5, from 5:30-8:30 at C.J. Cannon's. Those who wish may make memorial contributions in Bill's name to VNA Hospice Foundation, 1110 35th Lane, Vero Beach, FL 32960.
