Terrell Starr Obituary

Family-Placed Death Notice

STARR, TERRELL SENATOR TERRELL ADAMSON STARR Retired Senator Terrell Adamson Starr, 83, went to be with his Lord Jesus on Sunday, April 19. The sixth son of J.E. "Bud" and Kate Starr, he was a lifelong resident to Clayton County. Terrell and Celeste McKinney, childhood sweethearts, who married after he joined the Navy during WW II, would have celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary this June. He moved his membership from Mt. Zion Baptist Church of Jonesboro to First Baptist Church of Forest Park when they married. He served his Lord in many capacities, as deacon for over 50 years, on committees and faithful attendance at the Church. He was a devoted husband, a wonderful father, and also a man of the people - a leader and a statesman. He was first elected to public office as a commissioner from Clayton County, serving for 8 years. Then in 1968 he won his first term in the State Senate representing Clayton and Henry Counties and he held that seat until he retired in 2005. His many friends knew he could be counted on and he was humbled by the trust others placed in him. Terrell was preceded in death by his parents, five older brothers, Raymond, Harold, Thurman, Wayne and Aubrey; parents-in-law J.B. and Annis Lee McKinney. He is survived by his beloved wife Celeste; daughter, JoAnn and son-in-law, Rick McJenkin; son, Terry and daughter-in-law Jan Joiner Starr; grandchildren, Adamson, Benjamin, Joseph, Audra, Jillann and Nance Starr. Surviving in-laws are Jay and Janet McKinney, Henry and LaVerna McKinney, Ed and Margaret McKinney of Jacksonville, FL.; many cousins, nieces and nephews. The family will greet visitors Tuesday evening from 5:00 to 8:00pm AT THE FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH OF FOREST PARK, 834 Main St., 404-366-6333. Also from noon until the funeral hour at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, AT THE CHURCH. Dr. Reed Crumbliss and Rev. Paul Robins will bring the service. If you desire, the family suggests in lieu of flowers a contribution be made to First Baptist Church Of Forest Park, or your charity of choice, in the memory of Senator Starr. Thomas L. He will be missed as wise counsel by many. My sympathy to the entire family as well as to those who worked and served with him at the Capitol. We have lost a genuine public servant and friend. Our sincere sympathy at Terrell's passing. By his own testimony, we know where he is, absent from the body - present with the Lord, enjoying good health and reunited with loved ones already there. And at the appointed time, he is longing to see you there with him. God Bless you through the next few weeks as remembrances of the good times overshadow the sadness of today.
