Eva McCLENDON Obituary

Family-Placed Death Notice

McCLENDON, Eva EVA E. McCLENDON On June 24, 2012, God called His angel, Eva E. McClendon, home. One of twelve children, Eva was born to Reverend Monroe and Josephine Ragland on April 17 in Barnsville, Georgia. Eva was the ninth child born to this marriage. She was the sixth of seven daughters and five sons. After graduating from high school in Barnesville, she attended Morris Brown College in Atlanta. Eva then married Denver McClendon, Sr. of Atlanta, Georgia, who was a member of the United States Army Air Corp. They were married for more than 50 years. To this union was born their only child, Denver McClendon, Jr. Most of all, Eva loved the Lord. For more than 50 years, she was a faithful and dedicated member of the Westside Community CME Church, serving on the Board of Trustees, Missionary Society and a member of the Mass and Senior Choirs. Affectionately known as "Mama Eva," her sweet spirit, kind heart and genuine smile suited her well for the Alvin L. Dopson Courtesy Guild ministry, where she served as the president for more than 20 years. Eva also found a special joy in working with and encouraging the youth of the church. Her beautiful smile and melodious voice will be sorely missed. We thank God for allowing us to have one of His angels on earth with us for many years. Homegoing Service will be held Friday, June 29, 2012, 12 Noon at Westside Community CME Church, 2114 M.L. King Jr. Dr. Interment Lincoln Cemetery. Eva was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and siblings. Left to cherish her memory are: Son - Denver McClendon (Ruth), San Antonio, TX; Grandchildren - Mark McClendon (Bola), Nashville, TN; Angela McClendon Johnson (Marcel), San Antonio, TX; and Meredith McClendon Freeman (Larry), Houston, TX; Great Grandchildren - Bomani Fred McClendon, Reseun Moses McClendon, Remi Bonita McClendon, and Alade Anita's Joy McClendon of Nashville, TN; Sydney Anita Victoria Freeman and Lawrence Wayne Freeman, III of Houston, TX; and Nicholas Westbrook Johnson of San Antonio, TX; Goddaughter - Marcia Parrish; The Westside Community CME Church family; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
