Wanda Keeling Obituary

Wanda Mae Keeling June 26, 1929 - September 14, 2011 Wanda Mae Keeling was born in Blackwell, OK, on June 26, 1929, and moved to Selma, CA, at the age of two. Her husband proclaimed her a CIO, "California Improved Okie." She was a graduate of Selma High School and moved to Bakersfield in 1953. She passed away peacefully September 14, 2011, after a long battle with emphysema. Wanda is survived by her loving daughter, Debbie Hamm and husband, Randy; her devoted son, David Keeling; her sister, Helen of Santa Cruz, CA; and Wanda's husband of 60 years, Jim Keeling. The lights of her life were her grandson, Andy Hamm; and her granddaughter, Heather DeGeorge and husband, Paul. Also, honorary granddaughter, Priscilla Gray, who held a special place in her heart; as well as Priscilla's daughter, Amelia, who brought so much joy with her frequent visits. Wanda's first love was her family, sharing our accomplishments, offering her wisdom and love to all in our hard times, being there for us always. She loved working crosswords and all kinds of puzzles and keeping her mind sharp. Her quick wit and engaging personality made all who came in touch with her quickly fall in love with her. The family would like to thank all who took such superb care of her: Dr. William Baker, Molly Waite, PA, Dr. Robert Laughlin, and all the staff on fourth floor west and the fifth floor at Memorial Hospital, who anticipated and met her every need up to the end. The family could not have asked for a more caring and compassionate staff. Her memories will live on in all of us as we gather and remember and pass on her spirit to future generations. A graveside service will take place today, Tuesday, September 20, 2011, at 1:00 p.m. at Greenlawn Southwest Mortuary, 2739 Panama Lane.
