DAVID WALSTON Obituary

David Edward Walston, 62, of Beaumont, died Tuesday, October 13, 2009, at Christus Hospital St. Elizabeth in Beaumont. Born July 1, 1947, Mr. Walston was a resident of Beaumont for twenty-five years. David enjoyed tennis and running, participating in many marathons around the country. He retired in 2007 as a Captain in the U.S. Navy Reserve with over thirty years of military service. He was a private pilot, certified flight instructor and Naval Academy Information Officer. His parents, Dayton and Hazel Walston, preceded him in death. David is survived by his wife, Jane L. Walston of Beaumont; sons, Stephen L. Walston of Houston, and Michael E. Walston of Seattle; brother, William D. Walston and his wife Rose of Menard; and many other loving family members. His funeral service will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, October 17, 2009, at St. Mark's Episcopal Church in Beaumont, under the direction of Broussard's, 2000 McFaddin, Beaumont. Memorial contributions may be made to American Heart Association, P.O. Box 7015, Beaumont, Texas 77726 or Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association Air Safety Foundation, 421 Aviation Way, Frederick, Maryland 21701. David continues to live in our hearts. He was such a happy, positive person all through the years that I knew him in Menard. Each person that knew him must remember him with a smile, as I do. He will always hold a very special place in my heart as will Dayton and Hazel! I had a crush on him fir at least 7 years s when I was in grade 5-12!!!! He was funny and cute! Such innocence back then! We lost a great person, but will have a big g reunion when we all get to Heaven, what a day of rejoicing that will be! Many, many condolences to the family and tons of respect and love!

Dear Mrs. Walston and family,
I am a deceased veterans wife who was fortunate enough to be able to receive his benefits at the BOPC. I just want you to know that I was saddened to hear about your husband. He was a great listener and doctor. He will be missed by so many at the VA , your church family, his tennis buddies and especially by his family. His legacy will live on. He talked of his family often and was very proud of all of you. My brother, who is a veteran, was also a patient of his. He asked me last Friday if I had heard of Dr. Walston's passing. I was so shocked.
You and your family are in my prayers. Just remember, God has a plan.

To David Walston's Family.

I am deeply saddened with our loss. My prayers have been with you.

We have not met but I first met David when he signed up for the Civil Air Patrol. We worked together and flew together as members of the Civil Air Patrol.

David worked with the CAP Cadets and did an outstanding job.

In 2007 David came out and began playing tennis with us and we were on the same teams a lot and David was always a real competitor. Everyone he met liked him very much and he will be missed on the tennis courts.

I will miss him as a very good friend, tennis player and pilot.

Dear Jane and Family,

In the sixth grade, Hazel was my teacher and David was my friend. Chief, as we called his dad, was our golf coach. David and I spent many hours together playing out at their house. We crossed paths just a few years ago and we compared our military careers and pilot talk. I was very proud of what David had accomplished and especially his care and concern for our veterans. A godly man. Our prayers are with you.

David was such a good friend to Don and I as we grew up in Menard. The whole Walston family was such an influential part of my childhood and teenage years. At school and at church, the Walstons were leaders and their boys were examples of the "boy-scout" personalities that grow up to be such good community leaders.

David was such a big part of our history! We have many great memories of him as a boy and as a young man! My heart goes out to Bill, to you Mrs. Walston, and to all of his family. You are in our prayers.

To David Walston's Family, David is the best doctor that I have ever known. He was a one on one doctor with all his patients. He would call You to make sure that things were good with you. He expressed to me on my last doctor visit how much he was concerned of all patients at Beaumont Out Patient Clinic because of shortage of Doctors. God has took home a VERY VERY GOOD MAN,DOCTOR, FRIEND AND FAMILY MAN.

David Walston was, by far, the better than any doctor I have ever known. He really listened to his patients. He took the time to get to know me and answer all my health concerns. I felt that we shared a special bond through our mutual interest in outdoor activities. He worked tirelessly to help Veterans and will be sorely missed.

Dear Jane, Worda cannot express my sympathy. David was my Doctor at the VA clinic. He was and still is a wonderful man. Always a happy smile. I know you and the boys will miss him. Many people also loved him.
