Lloyd Whittington Obituary

Lloyd P. Whittington, Jr. Prominent rancher, Lloyd P. L.P. Whittington, Jr., 86, of Devers, Texas, passed away, with his family at his side, on Wednesday, August 17, 2011, in Beaumont, Texas. He was born on January 10, 1925, in Devers, Texas, to parents, Lloyd P. Whittington, Sr. and Maggie Brown Whittington. He graduated from Devers High School in 1942 as the Salutatorian of his class. He married Wanda Peveto in 1946. They lived in Devers, and L.P. worked for the Boyt Ranch. He later went to work for William Helis Oil, retiring after thirty-five years with the company. In addition, he sat on the Board of Directors for the Liberty County Farm Bureau for twenty-five years, was a director of the National Cattlemans Beef Board, a member of the Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association, and a lifetime member of the Texas Forestry Service. Mr. Whittington was a member of the Devers Drainage District for over twenty years. He was twice awarded the Texas Land Hertitage Award, for continued usage of his families farmland for both one hundred years and one hundred and fifty years. L.P. was recently honored with the TVE Heritage Award. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Devers. Mr. Whittington is survived by his wife of sixty-five years, Wanda Whittington; two daughters, Edwina Land and husband, Charles of Devers, Melina Pennington and husband, Tommy of Devers; six grandchildren, Amy Bruck- bauer and husband, Pete of Kingwood, Regina Snell and husband, Randy of Hardin, Chuck Land and wife, Robin of Liberty, Sherry Paschal and husband, Bubba of Winnie, Jesse Pennington and wife, Tiffany of Hardin, Jake Pennington and wife Amber of Devers; ten great-grand- children; one brother, Horace Whittington and wife, Iris; three sisters-in-law, Faye Paules, Imogene Denby, and Gertrude Whittington; and many other relatives and friends. A visitation was held Friday, August 19, 2011, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., at Allison Funeral Service Chapel, Liberty, Texas. Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 20, 2011, 11:00 a.m., at the First Baptist Church of Devers, Texas, with burial to follow in Whittington Cemetery, Devers, Texas. Services are under the direction of Allison Funeral Service, 1101 N. Travis St., Liberty, Texas 77575. Condolences may be posted online at www.allisonfuneral service.com.

Sorry to hear about L.P. my thoughts are with the family, though we only met several times he was geniune and spoke from the heart that was as big as he. Ken Ludwig introduced me to L.P. I have lost another true friend.
