I was saddened to learn of Paul's passing. Paul was a great friend for approximately a decade. I cherish memories of times spent with Paul and the Butrus family many years ago. Paul had a strong, positive influence on my life that has continued to this day. He possessed three distinguishing qualities typically not found in one individual – brilliance, warmth and a sense of humor. He was indeed, as someone noted, a very special person. My deepest sympathy goes out to Camille and the family as well as everyone who had the good fortune to know Paul.

Camille,
Sandy and I were saddened to hear of Paul's passing. Paul and your family welcomed us to Alabama which became the basis for a friendship which has lasted for a quarter century. We will always remember fun days at the lake, potato guns, Fourth of July and learning to ski around swimming deer. Paul was one of the finest people I have ever met. He had a strong love for you, his family and his friends. For many of us, he served the role of friend, mentor, counselor, and business advisor. He led by strong example and was an intelligent, warm, kind and honest person. His word has served as the only contract anyone ever needed. He had high expectations of himself and others, and never disappointed those fortunate enough to work with him. I know he will be missed by your family, his many friends and the Birmingham community. I am also confident that heaven is a brighter, better place because of his arrival. May God bless you and your family. You are in our prayers.

Mr. Butrus was a true gentleman and I considered him a valued friend. I worked with him at ProAssurance until his "retirement" and I left soon after as the place just wasn't the same withou him. I am sorry for your loss but he is now reunited with his son, whom he loved dearly.

As a follow up to our 50th reunion from Notre Dame where I missed seeing him, I Googled Paul to see if I could get an address. My prayers for the family..it's difficult to look at his smiling face. Paul and I worked together on many of the dances at Notre Dame and I considered him a friend and will miss him. My memories of a very classey guy will help. Blessing on his children and grandchildren.

Camille,
Paul was one of the finest men I have ever known. I have such fond memories of the lake days. Paul was a friend to all who knew him. He was a true mentor in every sense of the word. The world is a better place because of the steps he took and the kindness he bestowed. We here at ProAssurance will miss him greatly.

Alma, I'm so sorry about your son-in-law passing. You have been on my mind a lot lately. I sent a message to a Carol Stein (not sure if she's the right Carol) on Facebook asking if she was your daughter. I'd love to see you and Frances. I have such fond memories of the fun times we had together.

Paul and I met in 1977. My boss, Jere Beasley, and I, asked him to meet with us. We sought Paul's advice for Jere's impending campaign for governor.
Like most folks who met Paul, I was immediately a friend and fan from that day. I just missed seeing him last week at his lake home. Fortunately, we did enjoy a long telephone chat. I shall miss Paul's friendship, sage advice and zest for life.
